This is the master thread for all VGC and MCGC sold at Staples.
The previous discussion can be found here.

The VGCs sold at Staples are issued by Metabank and serviced by Blackhawk Network.
The activation code for online purchase comes with the card. Cards purchased at store are activated at check-out.
To activate cards over the phone (without activation codes), call (877) 426-2551 to talk to a rep.
To activate cards over the web, www.giftcardkey.com.
The default PIN number is the last four digits of the card number but can be changed online.

As of 5/12/2014, all known portals are dead.

Earn 5x points with Chase Ink, or Simply Cash for 5% cash back
Buy Visa gift cards (Metabank) at Staples ($200 for $7.95) or the website ($300 for $8.95).

2k Limit per transaction / 10k per day for online. In-store is usually 2k but YMMV
Often times, there are promotions with no or reduced activation fees

I purchased two MCGC (rebate) along with a 0.99 item on 9/23 and I received the $20 Uber late on 9/25. Wondering if anyone has similar delayed experience with gift cards.

They have to be doing these credits manually. That is the only way to explain the inconsistency, the Time between purchase and credit, and the errors in crediting.

i just got $9.27 credit for a (3) VGC online order placed last night.

Staples (and Walgreens) now show at 1% in my Uber app. Many other restaurants still show at 10%.

I got a few receipts manually credited by sending pictures of them to Uber help. So there was likely a change in the credit system before the app system was upgraded.

Probably a small window to get 10% manual credits over the past few days.

$15 staples gc on $300 vgc or mcgc coming Sunday. Anyone had any success recently with Uber credits? I had one online order that posted to Uber last week.

I don't think so....

https://rebate.staples.com/promocenter/staples/promotion.html?sku=763604

says:
$15.00 Gift Card

unlike September one, it said:

$15.00 Staples Visa Prepaid Card

yeah same here, I will try the OM/OD this week.

once in a while there are $.01 paper or software to liquidate the GCs, but that's additional hoops to go through!

I got confused about the "Staples Easy Rebates Card" too...it sounds like a staples gift card, but it's actually a standard $15 visa card. Per the offer T&C: "Can be used everywhere Visa debit cards are accepted."

I believe this is ultimately a mistake on Staples part. I'm sure one will be able to call in when your rebate arrives to complain that it is store credit when in fact your printed out rebate suggests Visa, but my guess is it will be too time consuming.

i believe the last time around, it was advertised as a staples gift card but it turned out to be a visa gift card.

you can even turn it around and buy another visa gift card if you wanted.

advertised by staples, yes, but if you look on the easy rebate site, it says gift card, it will be a store gift card this time around unless the rebate processor changes it.

Per the signage in the store, it's a prepaid Visa debit card, not a Staples gift card.
