Cash Advance or not (BoA)
 

So I bought some VGCs on GCM and GC with the Alaska card. After the transactions posted they were categorized as Cash Advance/Bank Transaction under the Type column. However, my CA credit line has not been affected, and the total amt of the transactions is higher than my CA limit anyway. BoA support can apparently see more detailed categories on the back end (she said 2 coded as "misc retail" and 1 as "Advertising services or Cash Advance". After I pressed her more she said they coded as balance transfers, which would not affect the CA limit, but would accrue interest.

Has anyone had a similar experience or know how to get to the bottom of this?

I've seen something similar with BoA, but it looks like the transactions are still counting towards the signup bonus

Well after the statement closed all the codes changed to purchases and all points were awarded. False alarm.
