Question of MS with CSP

Hi all. Please be patient with this newbie. My husband just got the Chase Sapphire Preferred. We are planning to purchase some cattle today. I had hoped we could go to WM, buy MO and then use those to pay for the cattle as well as meet his minimum spend. He just got this card and was activating it this morning. It must be in their script they read, because I didn't ask, but he said MO's do not meet minimum spend or generate any points. So I guess that shoots that down UNLESS you FTers know of another method. Thanks for your help!!!

Hi. Welcome to MS world. If I understand clearly, you tried to buy MO with a CC?
You can't buy a MO with a CC directly. You have to buy GCs first and than use that to get MOs. Be warned that only specific gcs can be used in WM to make a MO.

Thanks anubond005. Nice to have a pleasant reply. So I would need to purchase the MO's with gift cards that I purchased with a CSP? I have a BB card that I just received. Should I involve it in the mix or just purchase the gift cards (which brands), then use those to purchase the MOs. I think I read that the My vanilla did not work at WM?

yes, it should work like this: CSP>VGC>BB>pay CC or any bill via B/P

my vanilla debit is a reloadable prepaid card, it won't work to load your BB since you have to register this card like BB before you can start using it.

I suggest you read all related threads so you have an idea of current issues in buying VGCs and MOs. Good luck!

This is a true statement, but I believe she doesn't want to go the BB>CC route since she needs MO to pay for cattle, else she would just use CC for cattle, which doesn't seem to be an option.
It would be great if cattle sales would accept GC for payment, but sure that's not an option either.

To OP, there are many options besides WM to buy MO. There is a forum link for that here:

Maybe I lived in Texas too long, but what about opening a UFB Direct bank account and then using their debit card to fund a herd to get AAdvantage miles? So far as I know, UFB has no beef against rewarding miles for purchasing cattle.:D

OP have you asked the cattle dealer directly if he accepts credit cards?

I'd imagine you're looking to spend a good chunk of change so there's some motivation on his part to sign up for PayPal, Square, or any other of the mobile payment services. You could always offer to pay the fee (try offering to split first) to make it more appealing.

Be careful with Sapphire.. Chase is not playing nice these days. AMEX's druids are circling the Chase wagons waiting to deliver more death..

That would be my first question. OP definitely ask your supplier about accepting CC.. That's the quickest and cleanest way to meet the spend.

Assuming you have a friendly WM you can buy Metabank or US Bank issued GCS and get MOs and if your cattle guy takes MO you are set.

If you can buy directly from the cattle dealer with the CSP, will it earn 2X points? Cattle are going to become "dining", eventually. :D

Actually, you might get slightly more value using a Barclay's Arrival card as cattle likely fall into the transportation category. Saw plenty of bull riding at my hometown rodeo.:p
