Back in the day you got unlimited 5% CB *everywhere* for the first six months on the AARP card. Oh the good times that were to be had.

That was one of my classic ones. I had only real verified charges but was racking up huge numbers on that one. Never to be repeated again. Amex Gift cards (I used them for business) that was good for double dipping via portals. Those days are LONG over. I thought they might bring them back for Christmas but they did not.

Am I the only one old enough to remember c2it? That and savings bonds are where it all started for me.

The bonds I bought and was smart enough to hold on to are still paying great today thanks to the interest rate in effect back then.

First Bank of the Spook (Northwest)
Second Bank of the Spook (Tower)
Bank of the Spotted Owl (Provident)
Bank of the Biker (Randolph)
Bank of the Zombie Buffalo (Plains)
Trustmark and all the other banks used to fund short term deposits with 60 day rollover IRA money

The ability to Smurf rollover IRAs and bank accounts to move great rivers of funds through points earning debit cards (aka debit card farming) made great contributions to the recapitalization of the broken banking system during the Great Recession. Sadly, changes in IRS regs finally killed Papa Smurf.

How could no one mention emoneymail.

That was the one that started it all for me.

It was Chase's person to person payment service.

It was $1,000 a day for a $1 fee. I put the maximum on it every business day on a Chase credit card (no credit card fees) and transferred every day from one email (funding) to another of my emails (receiving). Lasted for a couple of years, then it just would not work any longer for me. No shut down notice - it just stopped working. There were a couple of others like it (as noted in a post above, c2it was one of them) during the tech boom, but they shut people down much faster (or just went away in the crash).
