This is the 2016 and onwards Bluebird thread.

The original discussion. The previous 2013- 2014 megathread. The previous 2015 megathread.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Read the wiki before posting a question.

The most recent huge wave of shutdowns occurred in May 2019.

Most accounts used for MS were shut down on Jan 8, 2016. Another wave of shutdowns occurred on March 4, 2016. Using Bluebird for MS is very likely to lead to account closure. There is no clear pattern as to how to avoid the account shut-downs. Some of the dormant accounts were not shut down.

Check your BB load limits BEFORE asking in this thread about "tender not allowed" or any other errors.

Bluebird website. There's no need to buy a Bluebird kit in-store; sign-up free on the website.

For information on switching from BB to Serve, see the Serve thread wiki.

Bluebird Load Limits:
  • Cash loading via VR or WM load: $2,500 per card per day; $5,000 total per calendar month each card; $10,000 calendar month and $100,000 per year all BB cards combined for each SSN.
  • Online Debit Card Load* - $200/day and $1,000/month
  • Checking/Savings Account - $2,000/month
  • Checks - $2,000/day and $10,000/month
  • ATM Withdrawals - $750/day and $2,000/month

The cash load limit for a temp card is $1,500 total.

*For online debit load, only use of bank-issued cards is allowed. The use of pre-paid debit cards (Netspend, Paypower, Univision, Paypal, etc.) and VGC/MGC/AGCs is not allowed. Your account will be flagged upon first/second attempt. If blocked, call Account Protection Services at 1-800-660-2454 to clear it (9am-8pm EST, Mon-Fri).

The day currently resets around midnight Eastern/11pm Central/10pm Mountain/9pm Pacific.

For online bill pay
  • You can pay the credit card that you used to buy reloads
  • Error 1302 means that you have 1 pending payment the same amount as the one you just submitted. For example, 1000 bill pay to sapphire preferred from Friday and then on Saturday you submit another bill pay for 1000 to sapphire preferred, you will get this error.
  • Tip: if using online bill pay to the same place multiple times, vary your amounts by $0.01 to make it easier to track since your confirmation number does not match the tracking number on your credit card statement

Loading with debit card at Walmart
Self checkout does not work for loading.

Many Walmart stores are enforcing a rule against the use of gift cards when loading, even though the register and the MCE do not enforce. Do not make your prepaid debit cards visible. Show them a bank debit card if asked. Otherwise, you may be asked by management to never visit the MC again to load with gift cards.

Loads at register over $500 will sometimes trigger ID requirement. There is a limit of four swipes per transaction; this means your card plus three payments.

If your card doesn't say "debit" on the front, it isn't a debit card.

Please see http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/manuf...bit-cards.html for additional information on using prepaid debit cards.

Training a WM cashier:
  • If the WM cashier doesn't know how to load the card, advise them to enter "70" then press "action code".
  • If you are using a temp card that doesn't have your name on it, you can swipe the card from your side of the terminal. The WM rep never has to touch any of your cards. The screen will say "enter account." That is your prompt to slide the card.
  • The terminal will ask the WM employee if you are loading in multiples of $2000. Advise them to enter "no."
  • Avoid saying gift card. Always refer to your card as a debit card.

Error Messages:
DEBIT NOT AVAILABLE
Received when I used a card I thought I had activated but hadn't.

DEBIT NOT APPROVED
Received when the card's monthly load limit had been reached.

TENDER NOT ALLOWED
Card was incorrectly read, or wrong PIN entered .

HOST TIMEOUT
Connection problems. The GC may be drained but the transaction should reverse itself, and funds will become available again. Try again later.

Hi so itís my first time using BB and loading it with the vgc.. I was able to load it, but the customer service agent only allowed me to do one swipe and one transaction...
then I found out through this page that I can use the regular register to load as well so I tried that today, but they all directed me to go to customer service to load the BB because they are unable to do it at the regular register... am I missing something here? Or only specific Walmart can I load at regular register?

also, I know you can only load 5000 per month per card, but when does the month reset? Is it at the end of every month? Or when you had your first deposit?

So I went to another Walmart to load, they asked to see the debit card Iím using, I panicked and showed them my actual debit card... so what should I do if they ask to see the debit card?...

All your questions can be answered via Wiki and some of the chats here. You are going to get the WM staff alarmed with what you do....

If they ask, they know what you're up to and will most likely reject you when they see a GC. However, as RedSun said, if you try to discretely switch back to the GC after showing a real card, you will eventually get busted.

I mean I wasnít looking suspicious or anything like that, just when the rep asked to see the debit I was using, I showed her my actual debit card and ended up loading it with that because I didnít want to seem sketchy switching... I hadnít even have the gift card in hand yet, so I donít believe she knew what I was up to.

And Iíve actually read the wiki multiple times before posting... Iím just really confused about how people are able to load at regular register while the Walmarts I go to keeps directing me to customer services... unless youíre referring to the section on the wiki about ďtraining the repsĒ? So I have to tell them how to do it? Im really sorry if The questions have already been answered... but I swear I went through all of the wiki and most of the chats, Iím still just a little confused..

It is trial and error process. You do not want to compare yourself vs people who have been doing this for > 10 years. There are HT people here who can do $10k MS per DAY. How do they do it? I do not care and I do not want to know. You at your comfortable level and you do not want to burn your location, burn a big hole in your pocket and in your wallet.

MS is a competitive and risky game. Some people kept a well guarded secret, even the location. It is the nature of this game. It is a mine game that you wan to start slow and be cautious.

I'd suggest you read more. Again and again.

That means that store is a no-go. You can try different cashiers, but with what you are describing, that store is most likely a toast (for now at least). If i were you, i would just go to a different store and try.

The terminals at customer service and money center are keyed differently from the regular casher terminals.

I opened my second Bluebird account a week ago and loaded it to the monthly limit of $5,000. I was trying to add one of my credit cards as a payee (which I have done numerous times on my other Bluebird account as well as my Serve account without a problem), but I kept getting an error that there was an error in adding my credit card account as a payee. i tried to add another credit card account as a payee, but was unable to do so. I have tried this a few more times yesterday and today, and I'm getting the same error. I would like to pay off this card soon, but can't seem to add it as a payee. Anyone had a problem like this or have any thoughts on why it's not letting me add my credit card company (Chase) as a Payee?

Since you have loaded your card to the monthly maximum, there is no way to determine the status of your account right now. However, I am assuming that it is functional.
To test the system, just add another payee to the account. If you can do this, then the problem is at the BB end and not yours. You may be correct in that BB does not recognize the CC account.

To solve your problem, write a check for the amount due to either yourself or your bank checking account and deposit it there. Then BP from your standard checking account.

Once the month has passed and you are able to load your BB again, you will discover whether or not it has been beheaded.

Thanks for the advice. Since I haven't ordered any checks for this account, I'm wondering if I can add my regular bank account and transfer funds from BB to my bank account and then pay my credit card bill that way. Do you think that's risky in terms of getting eyes on my account? I don't want to do anything extra that's going to increase the likelihood of getting shut down. I guess I could pull funds from my BB account to pay my credit card bill (instead of pushing the funds from BB to my credit card account) - is that less risky than transferring money from BB to my regular bank account?

I am not so hot on that idea.
The reason people use BB is that they don't have a regular bank account. All you need to do is add one to your BB account and some rat may start gnawing on your history wondering why you have a BB account.
I think it would be better just to order checks. They come in about a week, so if worse comes to worse, pay your account out of some other source and then refund it from BB if time is that short.
If it isn't, then just use a check when they come and pay the bill or yourself.

PostScript: It finally let me add my credit card account as a Payee and I was able to pay the bill. Not sure what the problem was earlier, but thanks for your advice.
