Discover 10% Cashback Bonus in-store through 2015 when using Apple Pay, up to $10k
Once iOS 9 launches next week, Discover will be offering 10% cashback on all in-store purchase when using Apple Pay, up to $10,000.
I'm assuming most retailers that sell $500 Visa/MC gift cards accept Apple Pay.

Every time I tried to use Apple Pay to buy GC, I get rejected.
They are used to checking IDs, and they can't do that with Apple Pay.
Not a lot of people understand the security features of Apple Pay so you can't do jack about it.

I am going to try adding my Discover IT to my mother's IPhone 5s and using ApplePay at a very friendly grocery store that has been selling to me for almost 2 years and see if this works. Only downside is my Discover has a $1.5k CL and my statement posts rights before 9/16 so I will only have 3 statements to do the $10k.

I currently use Android, but this would easily pay for itself if I bought an Iphone 6 plus to do this (and I'd have a way better smartphone left over). I'd be curious to hear if this retailers will accept Apple Pay for large MS purchases.
Also, would be interesting if this stacks with the double cashback promotion going on now.

Good to know, I am an android guy so I don't follow the IPhone specs. I do have a co-worker with a 6 plus that let me use his Serve for a year so I will see about loading his phone. If I do 10 x $1000 and buy him 10 lunches I will still come out way ahead.

According to the thread on Slickdeals it does stack with the 10% bonus. This is insane. An easy $1800 if you can find a store that will sell $500 Visa/MC cards and let you pay with Apple Pay.
Has anyone used Apple Pay for such purchases before? I guess there was never a reason before. I can't believe Discover is prepared to take such a huge loss on this.

A few months back I got a targeted 10x points offer for charging my citi AA platinum with apple pay for up to 2500 points. I bought a $500 (obviously more than I needed) VGC at Walgreens using apple pay on my iPhone 6. Certainly YMMV though because another WAG I went to only accepted cash.

It is insane if it is 11% but not 1.1%

Merchants that take Apple Pay are supposed to accept it just like any credit card: no maximum purchase amount.
I have used ApplePay to buy around $1,010 (2 x $500 VGC, plus fees) many times without issue. Only Problem is occasional fraud alert on a card that requires calling the bank to clear it... but that happens even if using physical card sometimes.
Places that sell VGCs and take ApplePay that I know of:
- Star Market
- Walgreens

People do realize if they don't have an iPhone that it's actually worthwhile to buy one (even the 6S+) for this deal, or if you really don't like iPhone just buy a used 6 for it.
Or buy an iPhone, use it to get to the $10,000 within the return period and return it.

If I sign up for a second Discover IT card, does anyone know if I will get the double cash back on the new card?
Anyone have any idea how long you have to have your old card closed for before you can get a new card? I searched and searched the internet but surprisingly haven't found any information...
Unfortunately my wife and I already have discover it cards with the normal cash back...I'd sure like a free $2k in addition to the first $2k...
