Money Order Maximum Values?

Hi all,

My usual MO process, done at a local grocery store that still takes debit cards (including Vanillas), caps the MO at $500.

Just wondering if there are other options out there to get higher maximum MO values? I'm not a fan of depositing a dozen MOs if I can just get one at the correct value.

Thanks!

afaik $1K is max for WUMOs; it's not the grocery store that sets the max value for a particular flat rate fee. You have to check your stores and ask the max value of MO they sell for a flat rate fee. IME, WUMOs are more acceptable to both online and B&M banks compared to MGMOs.

Great to know, thanks!

Bi-Lo, selling WUMO's are capped at $500, but do accept Vanillas. So + & - I guess.

Appreciate the feedback!

Does the USPS accept VGCs (2x$500) as payment for the above?

Thanks. I didn't think so either. The answer given above was in response to being able to purchase MO with Vanillas. So I thought maybe something had changed recently. But i guess not.

Does anyone know how the USPS system denies DBGCs? I mean, if they can do it, couldn't anyone do it?

I believe they process the transaction as a cash withdrawal instead of as a debit purchase. The GC issuers block cash withdrawals/cash back transactions on their end of the system.

Isn't there some distinction when you hit a certain level that a money order becomes a cashier's check? Maybe it's $1000?

MO

I was able to buy MOs at USPS using MGCs lately. However, noticed unusual things. Whenever I try to combine two methods of payment (e.g two $500 MGC for $998.6 MO+$ 1.60 fee) transaction wont go through. However, when I use only one card at a time, transaction (e.g $500 MGC for 498.75 or less+$1.25 ) go through. Any reasons for this. Thanks

I'm not sure if it's a typo, or if it's the reason you are having problems with your transaction, but it would need to be $998.40 + $1.60 for it to go through with 2x $500 GC.
