Vanilla Visa - Unauthorized Transactions
Just bought a Vanilla Visa GC at Walgreens yesterday.
I open the card today to register and I am shocked to see two transactions for $1.50 and $250 at a Ross Store, both pending just couple of hours ago.
Called the 1-800 number and filed a dispute.
I have also put a hold on the card.
It is a sealed pack with no signs of tampering.
This never happened to me before.
I called the Ross store, but they cannot do anything.
It seems Visa dispute processing could take 60 days.

* I had a card with fraudulent charges May 27th.
* Letter telling me I'd won the dispute came on September 2nd.
* I finally got the replacement card after two requests on October 4th.
Expect a good 4 month long fight and keep on them. Good luck.

Yes, I just wanted to make sure.
I am going to avoid VGC from that store.
Metabank or Netspend would be next card.
Also I would immediately head to liquidate it going forward.
These prepaid instruments are very risky to hold even for a day.

Odd, as all our Walgreen's here are cash-only. What was your MS angle, or are Walgreens in your corner of the world accepting credit cards to MS?
The cards are risky indeed in several areas (think Hemet) so inspect those packages and unload the cards ASAP. Over here, in the credit card fraud capital of the free world, I have yet to run into tampered cards. To date our folks prefer to use fraudulent IDs and credit cards to buy legitimate GCs. JFTR, my typical card-to-MO-time runs about 15 minutes.

Actually even I was surprised that Walgreens near me accepted CC for this card. It was just a one card purchase to get 5%. I was planning to load to my serve.
The package looked clean to me.
But I did a big mistake.
I took the first card on the rack.
There high possibility that the first one is bad, if there is tampering in the store.
I need to follow your method of 15 min liquidation.
Just sent all the docs today.
I hope there is a resolution soon.

There has been a lot of PIN-based fraud with MPs though, even if the card hasn't been tampered with. Not sad to see those go away.

If your thinking choosing the 3rd or 4th card or the back from every rack guarantees no scam you are sorely mistaken. It is just the random placement of the card. None of this is an excuse to not thoroughly inspect the packaging of each card.

Let me guess Hemet.
Place all packages on the ground and do not pick the one differs than the others.
The stores you visit often, get newer stocks(because you clean them up).
If I dare, I'll hide those out of sync packages under shelf.
Open the packages right away after purchased.
Inspect them closely. If it is Meta, just call the 800 and they will mail you a new one.
