Exactly same experience today for me. The "You must wait 30 minutes after activation to use" is complete and utter BS.

Also note that you do earn BBY reward points buying the gift cards. On last year's same AMEX offer, there were enough BBY reward points earned that worth 2/3 of the fee paid, making the deal even sweeter.

Ask the sales at BBY - the local BBY has multiple places for GCs, but only put the BBY Visas on the bottom of ONE stand which can easily be missed. After circle 2 times of the usual spots and could not found it, I asked the guy at the door where the BBY Visas were and he pointed me to the right stand. Note - these are BBY's own label Visa therefore they dont look at all like the generic ones sold at Office Supply stores. You could totally miss them if you dont know what to look for.

Bought 2 BB VGC's for $200 and $50 on my BCE which totalled $261.90. It's the only AMEX card I have right now. $25 + $2.62 (1% cashback with card) - $11.90 fees still nets $15.72 not bad..
Will dump the $200 onto RB tomorrow. Dumped the other $50 onto Kiva loans.

Worried about not being able to turn it into cash (maxing out RB, etc.) is the only reason I can think of because the fee stays the same whether you get $50 or $200.

If I have only one AMEX card to use, this would be the route I take.

I purchased 5x$200 VGC in BB few days ago, splitting in 4 cards - everything went OK. Came today and the same cashier was working at the checkout. It seems she recognized me from that day (probably, not many people do split transactions in BB) and called manager over. General manager come and started to question me, why I'm buying this and according to him it's not normal. At the end (since cashier informed him that I purchased VGC before) he claimed that Bestbuy has a "unwritten" policy - they can sell only $1K/6 months.
