Absolutely, there's something you can do. Go to another WalMart.

No rule as far as I know.

What does it hurt if they are just looking at your ID and not copying anything down?

really? that's all they do? I thought they were going to report it to the gov so I didn't show it.

You might want to look to see what they do with others. There is no requirement for them to report it to the government.

It's OK to ask them. And yes, you may want to go to a different store.

You didn't provide much data, but if you split payments on the first 2 MO's (500 and 500, and 500 and 500), and then tried to do it a third time, that seem suspicious to the clerk. Best case is just an ID check to scare you off (which seems to have worked). Worse case they log your info. I've had it done to me on a second split 500, CSR just looked at ID, I inquired as to why, his response was "transaction seemed odd", I responded with "oh, ok, I've done this previously without issue - if it's a problem I certainly won't do it again".

Morale, don't get greedy, and learn your clerks and what THEY are comfortable with, in addition to what YOU are comfortable with.

FWIW -- Most I do on any single WM visit is a shade under $2k: buy 2X $999.25 MOs, pay with 4X $500 VGCs. Never have had my ID requested.

PaulMSN May 13, 2014 7:58 am

I do $2K all the time at my WM, and if it's one of the friendlier clerks and I have more GCs, I do more. Recently I did $5K with no problem. You just have to be lucky enough to find the right store. No ID necessary.

You know what they say...mo money (order), mo problem(s).

I'll show myself out.

mo money "mo problems" like the title of the this thread.

I heard that once you provide your ID to the Wal-Mart CSR, the CIA comes to your house in the middle of the night and puts a tracking beacon in your anus whilst you sleep.

For this reason I never provide ID.

If I understand you correctly, you had bought $2k already, and wanted to buy $999 more?

If you are trying to buy more than $3k you will be asked for your ID, because they are required to fillout a NIL (Negotiable Instrument Log).

Huzordaddy May 13, 2014 12:26 pm

I often buy as much as $6000 in MOs from WM in a single visit. They don't ask me for ID.
Sometimes I'll do a $2000 bill pay and $4000 in MOs.

Then there's that one lady at my least favorite WM who won't let me use OV or split tender.
