Possible vending machine MS

Just throwing this out there...

Went to my gym a few days ago and noticed a vending machine dispensing drinks and protein shakes (up to $5-6 / pop). Noticed machine accepts CC and cash, so my internal MS alarm was sounding off. I put a quarter in, then added the remaining balance up to $6 from a CC, then pushed refund, and it spit out dollar bills and quarters! The machine had a Ventech label on it if I remember correctly.

Obviously not the best system and limited to how much cash is in the machine (not to mention COMPLETELY shafting other gym members who actually want to buy drinks and get change back), but could be an idea for some.

caGALINDO Apr 2, 2014 6:46 pm

lmao.

roki Apr 2, 2014 6:48 pm

If anyone is really going to bother manufacturing spend at a rate of $5 a pop, they really need to just close all their accounts and give up on credit cards.

Roudrani Apr 2, 2014 6:53 pm

lol glad to see so many people working on alternatives

uncommonsensical Apr 2, 2014 6:57 pm

those who are against restricting the forum argue that if newbies are kept out we will lose the additional ideas they come up with.

yes, it would be tragic if we lost such gold mines as this. QUICK, delete your post so it doesn't die- there are 10's of points that could be lost if this gem ever gets out...

The vending machines at my work are coded as restaurant.

grayland Apr 2, 2014 7:21 pm

It is a good thing it didn't refund the balance on your card in quarters.

Doctor of Credit Apr 2, 2014 7:31 pm

This is hilarious, although has anybody ever seen those sony underwater headphones: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news...ttles-of-Water

At least that way you'd be getting $100/pop. Although it's still ethically bankrupt.

You get an "A" for effort my friend. Everybody else here is just waiting for the next MS technique that will get over exploited. Looks like the next one you find, you should keep for yourself. After all, why would you kill your goose that lays a golden egg? I like the notion of vending machines but will not employ it.

I'm with this guy.

My coworker put a dollar into the vending machine at work the other day for twizzlers. The machine spit out three packs of twizzlers and 4 quarters. I thought this thread might be divulging the secret of making that happen.

I don't get it, how do I liquidate the twizzlers? Can I load BB with twizzlers? I tried that once at my walmart but they said the only accept actual currency.

You did it wrong! You take the twizzlers to CVS and ask for a refund. They give you say a 1$ merchandise credit. Once you do this 503 more times, you can (probably) buy a VR, hopefully the cash only covers merchandise credit as well.

So, where is this generous twizzler-gifting vending machine?

BingBlangBlaow Apr 2, 2014 9:43 pm

No need! I spend all my MS profit on twizzlers anyway, so this just saves a few steps. Unfortunately, it didn't work when I tried it.

look man screw these guys for making fun of you, atleast you're trying to help out the community. maybe in the future you'll find something bigger and better...i'll be looking forward to it

Stuff like this could be useful if you have that new Amex where you need 30 charges/month.

If this is what it takes to get more people to exercise, I'm all for it!

jimbaum Apr 4, 2014 10:26 pm

I feel for the OP. It brings me good memories of one of my earlier posts sharing something new...and the immediate response I got -

"...the people behind the counter would come out and start beating you with sticks"

By far the best product for liquidating twizzlers is this one.

You made me look :p

Don't give folk bad ideas - they may just purchase one of these at a discount warehouse where they then would return it to the store for a credit to another card for a mini MS. This only hurts these warehouses.

Or many reward checking accounts that require x charges per month on a debit card.

GENIUS ^

Don't mind the naysayers -- they're just jealous of your perpetual point machine!

WhiteRoom Apr 5, 2014 5:59 pm

I was really hoping this thread would die on its own, or remain a joke. Since I am in the vending business, let me say please don't do this.

Outside of soda machines owned and operated by Coke and Pepsi, most vending operators are the smallest of small business. Beyond the cost of the hardware, data/cellular fees run $10+/machine/month. Transaction fees (because transaction values are so small) run 5%+ and your refund will cost the operator that transaction fee. And that's all before you run the coin mech dry and the machine shuts down and sits making no money until someone fixes the problem. This is just not something where you can argue no one is getting hurt, or only a big bank is getting hurt.

AlohaDaveKennedy Apr 5, 2014 6:12 pm

Or a share draft account with The Bank of the Biker where you get a dime for each debit card use. We may have found the elusive cash back fountain of youth! And to think some once thought that returning luggage carts at the Frankfurt Airport for Euros was the Holy Grail. Why, we could all retire and live in an unfinished reclaimed Caracas high rise (The Tower of David for $35 a month) at this rate :D

The Tower of David reference in the post immediately prior to mine was in a few episodes of Homeland.

TravelingRabbit Apr 8, 2014 5:59 pm

Now you're thinking like a real MSer!

You could also stand around a gas station offering to pay for people's gas....

Or maybe if you're a waiter and someone gives you cash to pay... pay with your card and pocket the cash???? That would be insane!

Great idea! This will last all of two days before you get fired, so make sure you do it on high paying nights....

HefeSD Apr 10, 2014 4:09 pm

Along the lines of the techniques in this thread, went to the grocery store today for regular groceries. Finished the transactions and paid with cc. After the transaction was complete, the cashier reminded me to swipe my club card. After I did, she refunded the club savings in cash, a whopping $4.97 on the $41 transaction already paid by cc. That's a free $4.97 of ms for today!

aceofcards Apr 10, 2014 5:37 pm

Orr what if you know the owner of a fancy restaurant and then "dined" out and then they give you cash for it? Is that illegal? They'd have to pay merchant fees though so not sure if that would be worth it.

AlohaDaveKennedy Apr 10, 2014 5:49 pm

Actually have never seen Homeland. Found an article on The Tower while looking into a Caracas trip with my SO. Was last in the city in 1987 before hurricane Hugo wrecked the place.:p

you know how people say "lol" or any of the 'stronger' variants? (rotfl, etc.)

People say that when they mean "i smiled, barely perceptibly".

But I literally guffawed. Rarely happens on the internet. Thank you.
