bean dump
I only MS to meet minimum spend and good thing I did my AoR this month. Problem is I now have a bag of beans and I can't dump them all into BB due to the 5k limit. I've read many times that there are other ways do get rid of VR's but I can't seem to find the information. I'd appreciate any help and thank you.

Well I figured the VR thread got renamed and has essentially become the CVS thread whose death is only a couple of weeks away. So yes :/
|
Bean dip? :D
Oh, "bean dump"....hey, it's late, ok? Interesting question. Interesting answer, anyone? OTOH, do you not have any margin where you could file those away and do some $2.95 GCs until you make it back to BB time? Also, have you looked in to JHP? HRB? |
My original plan was to hold them until the next month but I don't want the bean dip to go bad
And no I didn't look into JH nor H&R. Will get on that now |
I'm typically not a spoon feeder, but since this deal is about dead..
A) Find a friend/parent/significant other to get a Bluebird. B) Read the H&R Block Emerald Card thread, get one, load/unload 5k - ACH to your favorite bank. C) Use up your three My Vanilla Debit chances to liquidate D) Get a JH Preferred Card E) Read the Wiki in the CVS thread which similarly spoon feeds you. Among other popular options... |
Buy a Netspend card at CVS and then slowly load it with the beans. Be careful though and don't go too fast in loading or unloading as you may get a shutdown. If you have a SO then buy two of those cards.
|
How much did you buy that you have to sit on?

I disagree.. load Netspend as fast as possible and ACH out the entire balance in one shot. Setup the DD / ACH information as soon as you setup your account. Load $5k. ACH $5k. Shutdown guaranteed! Walk away with a smile on your face.

I usually have bean dump after eating Mexican food too.
Oh... wait... You mean VRs? |

Wow I didn't know I could get a refund straight from Incomm. I just opened an HR Block Emerald account and am trying to do something with an unregistered MVD as I've already reached my 3 card limit.
How many beans? Well let's just say a lot more than I can handle. I have to do some serious dumping in the next few weeks. |
so which of the few prepaid cards (Netspend, Paypower, JH, H&R Block, MVD) are the best way to do a one time $5K dump of VRs? Not looking to keep the card.
|
Why not just wait till May 1 and do the usual... feed the bird?

Can you do $5K in refund with a check?

Having done the refund with Incomm on the HIGC last year, it is a very painful process. Plus, since you have to give them a lot of personal info, i worry a bit about being on their black list if something goes wrong, or if you ever have to deal with them again on a problem with one of their products.
They at a minimum will drag their heels for weeks under the guise that they want to make sure you're not a fraudster stealing someone else's card, etc. I can tell you on the rare chance you get a check approved in only a few weeks, you might as well wait a few days until May to feed your bird. |
If you've maxed out BB, use My Vanilla Debit (MVD). There may be some obvious reason why no one's mentioned it, but it seems like a pretty useful alternative/supplement.
You're allowed up to 3 accounts per person. Each account has a 2500/d max of bean reloads onto them. There is a monthly limit per account (I think) but I dont remember what it is. Buy MVDs at the store (or order online for free--which will have your name printed on it), load beans onto MVD, and use that debit card to buy a money order. You can load MVD over the phone when you set it up, or online via the VR website. Obviously don't abuse it for ton of MS on each card, but it's a nice way to spread out your MS over BB and 3 MVD accounts. Not that it matters anymore. |

I want to look for a prepaid debit that will allow BP online. Would much rather just dump the VR funds to pay off a CC. Any suggestions?

At a minimum, even if they shut you down after the first day, sounds like an easy way to liquidate 7.5k of beans though, right? If new beans are kaput, then sounds like a viable option with no downside.

Yes, but beware the MVD $3,000 daily POS transaction limit. Still, they will just put you in spenddown mode with no worries.

Just don't be afraid to have the teller try other amounts. It's as easy as saying, "Sorry I'm not sure about their limits." I've never had an issue. |

I didn't see any negatives for cancelling the card, such as a closing fee. JHP has that one. |

I like the HRB ($.95 per BP up to 2.5k) but it was mentioned you didn't want to keep the card. BP takes two days after submitted, FYI.

I am in the same situation as yourself. I have my 5k for this month but I still have another 5k to unload and would rather not wait until May 1st. No HRB will give me an emerald card by me. Looking for something that I can just load the 5k up and BP to Chase and Citi

So HRB can dump to Amex CC up to $2.5K per $0.95? If so I don't mind coughing up $2 to dump $5K. I just don't know what to do with the card afterwards and how to fund it after VRs are done. Now if it were able to load VGCs onto the HRB and if it has no monthly fee it might be worth keeping. Just trying to get an idea of what options are out there.
