Non-US agents are, as of at least August 15, 2015, able to do debit card payments. If they resist, ask for a US agent.

Please do not report that debit payments do not work over the phone, they do! Hang up and call again (HUCA) until you get someone capable.

The same thing can be done in a Citi branch, but you do not swipe the debit card or enter any PIN, so it seems likely that the same cards do/don't work in branch as over the phone.

The name on the debit card must match the name on the account, but you can be an authorized card holder (they'll ask the name of the primary). You can also pay off Citi Business credit cards (only attempted as primary cardholder).

Limit of one payment per debit card per account per day.

Add cards to these two lists as appropriate. Please keep it alphabetical.

Debit cards that work for paying Citi cards over the phone:
All debit cards attached to regular checking accounts (Alaska - some have not gotten miles; SunTrust - no miles; UFB Direct [$2000 daily limit] - no miles)
Green Dot (permanent card)
H&R Block Emerald
JH Preferred
MVD (shutdowns have been reported)
Paypal Business Debit Mastercard (no 1% cb)
Pennywise Power "payday rewards" Visa cards (Bancorp, MB financial Bank N.A)
Simple Card - see post #347
Swagbucks virtual visa (issued by Prepaid Digital Solutions)
Topcashback virtual visa (issued by Bancorp)
T-Mobile (temp and perm [shutdowns have been reported])
Wells Fargo

Debit cards that DO NOT work for paying Citi cards over the phone:
American Express Gift Card (it's not a debit card)
American Express for Target (it's not a debit card)
Bluebird (it's not a debit card)
Chase Starbucks Prepaid (post)
Curve Commercial Debit
Google Wallet (it's not a debit card) - (it is a debit card; whoever said it isn't is wrong)
Green Dot (temporary card registered with zip and pin)
MetaBank Visa/MC
US Bank/USB GC
Paypower (temporary card registered with zip and pin) - post 283
Serve (it's not a debit card)
Sunrise Bank Visa
US Bank Mastercard/Visa prepaid
US Bank Visa Buxx
TD Go Card
Vanilla Visa/Mastercard (issued by Bancorp) (incl. OneVanilla, Vanilla Debit)

Anyone know if it's still possible to pay BofA (specifically Travel Rewards) with a debit card? I called website number I found at FIA Card Services website but I think it automatically transferred me to the (BofA) Platinum Honors client reps who said it definitely can't be done.

I'm fairly certain that they will only take a debit card payment if the account is in a "collections" status for late or non-payment which most of us don't fall into.

Anyone willing to share how many debit payments they've made in a month (assuming 10+) and had/did not have a problem?

I tried to use my Discover debit card over the phone, but it did not work.

Does anyone else have any success or failure using debit cards from Discover Bank?

Did they know that it's a Discover card?

Unlike Visa and MasterCard, Discover network built a single network to handle both "cash" and "credit" transactions. As I understand, everything except cash-over is "credit."

Anyone else note that you can now make the debit card payment through an automated process? When I called, I was asked by the automated system if I wanted to pay with a debit card; was smooth and easy.
