In Madison, three stores that I visited last week for the $5 GC offer sold me $1000, although most asked for my ID to compare names. One other told me $500 max, so I skipped that one. I never tried $2000.

Tried to buy 2 VGCs for the $5 WG GC promo. Cashier couldn't get it to work. Manager tried and couldn't figure it out, then told me I could only buy $500/day in gift cards. I pointed to the WG promo, and stated I wanted to buy 2 $500 VGCs to get the promo. She just couldn't figure out how to do it and gave me that excuse. I kindly left. 2 other WGs sold me all I wanted.

there may be stores that will still allow purchase of 2. just try your store and see.
