As of 6/19/2014, Walmart does not accept debit transactions above $49.99 from cards issued by Bancorp, namely Vanilla Visas (OV, VGC, etc.). Attempts result in "Alternate Tender Required," "Debit Not Available," and/or some other error message, at both registers and the Money Center Express (MCE, kiosk, Kate, ATM).

Updated datapoint(s) here in NJ, at 6pm Friday:
- no problem loading MetaBank variable-load Visa cards to Go bank at WM register
- no problem buying MO's with MetaBank variable-load Visa GCs at WM customer service counter
Register had older b/w key pad.
Customer service had older b/w key pad.
These cards are newest versions, Jan 2023 expiration dates.

Just successfully loaded 2 birds with OVs at Wally. Our screens are the color ones, and I was fast on the draw to hit the yellow Cancel Payment button on screen and had no trouble.
BF was a tiny bit more hesitant and even though he also hit the yellow button and got all of the correct follow on choices of debit, no cash, etc., at the end, the screen gave Error 01. The cashier said it was trying to run it as a credit card. She let him try again and this time he was much faster to hit the button and it went through as debit.
So even if you appear to be getting the right prompts, it might still fail if your initial screen-pressing is too slow!

Loaded 1.5k today. One OV with color POS terminal hitting the yellow button (as mentioned by somebody else here) right after I swiped the OV worked to bring up the payments option screen (this is a physical yellow button not onscreen). Two USB VCG loaded as they always have.

It worked at the WM near me in MA by... the speed seems to vary a lot depending on the terminal. I was able to hit the button on the touchscreen, not the physical one.

Yeah wife and I were at the local WM today unloading on 4 BBs with OVs using, for the first time, kate, who was freshly updated and actually working! After 2k on my part, wife needed 'associate' override ('for my protection' [or security?]). We accidentally used OV card twice and we thought it wasn't going to work so we walked away then realized our mindless mistake. So we went back after gathering a few things. Wife loaded 1k on first BB card but on second BB 'associate' override ('for my protection' [ or security] was required after trying to load the second 500.
I jumped on here to see what you guys have said about this and I discovered the 1999.99 in 10 minutes thing. Sigh of relief really because for a second I was thinking that this shiny kate was doing facial recognition or something lol. When the associate did the override, we noticed that there was a screen saying, among other things, something like 'customer using prepaid card or gift cards for transactions'. That's the only part that stuck out for me, but I only saw it for a couple seconds before the associate clicked ok and disappeared.
So now I know 1999.99, then walk away for a while, people watch maybe because it doesn't get any better than walmart for doing that.
