If you buy GCs when they are not on promotion, you get no gas points. Zero, Zero, Zero. NOT 1X.
Current GC Promotion: None (so you will get zero gas points for buying Amex, Visa, or MC gift cards)
Stop & Shop (S&S) and Giant Food Stores (Giant) offer points for purchases which can be redeemed for discounts off gas purchases at select gas stations. The rules are different depending on whether you shop at S&S or Giant and within the Giant chain, the rules vary by your location.

You need to obtain a Rewards card at the Customer Service desk before you can start getting gas rewards.
Cards that work are listed in the current circular. They do change occasionally. VISA and MC from Metabank or US Bank for $20-$500 (plus $5.95 fee) work. For GCs, if it meets the previous requirements, the packaging (blue, silver, birthday cake, etc.) doesn't matter! Check the issuing bank.
S&S and Giant (NoVA, DC, MD) allows you to redeem gas points only up to $2.20/gallon and points expire after 30 days. Giant PA can redeem full amount.
Points earned in one program cannot be used in another program, BUT there are reports that you can call Customer Service and x-fer points to the other programs. See post #512
S&S allows you to fill up more than once per day.
Giant may ask for your name and driver's license to write in a book if you make a certain level of purchases. Some stores it is for >$2k and some for $5k. YMMV.

Thanks for the heads up ... tried one reloadit today and also got the bonus gas points.
I re-read the circular and they're giving extra gas points on all gift cards -- not just
the ones pictured. (although, fine print says excludes store GC, telecom and reloadable cards.)

I stopped in at a CVS today and was told cash only on OV (the lady said people are doing 'stuff' with the cards, hahaha). So I said OK and left, then figured lets give this SS gas rewards thing a shot.
Grabbed 1 x Gray VGC and 1 x Blue Birthday Cake VGC today at SS, earned 3000 gas points total - sweet! Now comes the logistics re. filling up 35 gallons across two vehicles in one transaction.... Hmmm - I think i might need to buy some 5gal gas cans

One of my local Giants today (Columbia Pike, Arlington) gave me a somewhat tough time (never encountered it before) when buying cards. I tried buying two cards (one of each of Visa & MC). The manager came up and said -'how are you paying for these'. I said, credit card. She said, 'nope, these are only allowed for cash or debit'. I replied that I had bought them at that store before (which is true), and immediately, without another word - she scanned them both, rang them up and my total was US$1.029,60 (other groceries too). No other comments or anything, aside from yelling at her nice cashier about mundane things...which I felt bad for (he was trying to hand me the cards before my credit card was accepted, etc), but all was good and there were still at least 20 of the variable gift cards in stock at that Giant!

Bought $4500 in VGCs today. Got a look at the binder with the sheets they have to fill out for purchases over $2500. I'm literally the only entry in in there. It's just a sheet of my name and purchases over and over. They don't seem to care. The last time I was in there the manager asked "so do you use all these to go on trips?" I just said 'yep' and he said something like 'lucky you'. Wish I was lucky enough to have a Giant that also carried ReloadIts like some people have. It would literally be my one stop MS shop.

I bought a MetaBank VGC for $500 today and earned no points. Did anyone else earn successfully today? I think I saw a post that some places had the deal only until 6/12, but others 6/16. If it should be 6/16 I'll try to go back and get my points...

I bought one this morning and got no points at S&S. Went to customer service, who actually tried to load 1500 points onto my card and it wouldn't let them. They actually looked at the ad which said 6/6 - 6/16. Was the metabank $500 and I know it should work because I bought one a few days ago and got the 1500 points.
Edit: They told me I can call the Stop & Shop card number, but I'm thinking I don't want to push it too much. I do have 5,400 points currently and already used 2,200 last week.

I've called the number and they weren't helpful. What worked for me was to just fill out the contact us form on their website - the next day someone called me back and had already added the points.

Store CS can only do 500 points a time. They won't be able to give you 1500 in one transaction. Next time, feed them this info.
