Read the wiki before posting a question.

Check your BB load limits BEFORE asking in this thread about "tender not allowed" or any other errors.

Bluebird website. There's no need to buy a Bluebird kit in-store; sign-up free on the website.

The original FlyerTalk discussion thread is here: Wal-Mart, Amex take on banks with Bluebird debit card

Bluebird Load Limits:
  • BB loading via VR or WM load: $2,500/day and $5,000 total per calendar month
  • Online Debit Card Load* - $200/day and $1,000/month
  • Checking/Savings Account - $2,000/month
  • Checks - $2,000/day and $10,000/month
  • ATM Withdrawals - $750/day and $2,000/month

*For online debit load, only use of bank-issued cards is allowed. The use of pre-paid debit cards (Netspend, Paypower, Univision, Paypal, etc.) and VGC/MGC/AGCs is not allowed. Your account will be flagged upon first/second attempt. If blocked, call Account Protection Services at 1-800-660-2454 to clear it (9am-8pm EST, Mon-Fri).

The day currently resets around midnight Eastern/11pm Central/10pm Mountain/9pm Pacific.

For online bill pay
  • You can pay the credit card that you used to buy reloads
  • Error 1302 means that you have 1 pending payment the same amount as the one you just submitted. For example, 1000 bill pay to sapphire preferred from Friday and then on Saturday you submit another bill pay for 1000 to sapphire preferred, you will get this error.
  • Tip: if using online bill pay to the same place multiple times, vary your amounts by $0.01 to make it easier to track since your confirmation number does not match the tracking number on your credit card statement

Loading with debit card at Walmart
Self checkout does not work for loading.

Many Walmart stores are enforcing a rule against the use of gift cards when loading, even though the register and the MCE do not enforce. Do not make your prepaid debit cards visible. Show them a bank debit card if asked. Otherwise, you may be asked by management to never visit the MC again to load with gift cards.

Loads at register over $500 will sometimes trigger ID requirement. There is a limit of four swipes per transaction; this means your card plus three payments.

If your card doesn't say "debit" on the front, it isn't a debit card.

Please see http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/manuf...bit-cards.html for additional information on using prepaid debit cards.

Training a WM cashier:
  • If the WM cashier doesn't know how to load the card, advise them to enter "70" then press "action code".
  • If you are using a temp card that doesn't have your name on it, you can swipe the card from your side of the terminal. The WM rep never has to touch any of your cards. The screen will say "enter account." That is your prompt to slide the card.
  • The terminal will ask the WM employee if you are loading in multiples of $2000. Advise them to enter "no."
  • Avoid saying gift card. Always refer to your card as a debit card.

Error Messages:
DEBIT NOT AVAILABLE
Received when I used a card I thought I had activated but hadn't.

DEBIT NOT APPROVED
Received when the card's monthly load limit had been reached.

TENDER NOT ALLOWED
Card was incorrectly read, or wrong PIN entered .

HOST TIMEOUT
Connection problems. The GC may be drained but the transaction should reverse itself, and funds will become available again. Try again later.

UPdate Notice on Sept 15, 2014.
Some minor changes on the ATM limits and fees:
Out-of-Network ATM Fees:
Beginning October 30, 2014, the fee for withdrawing funds using out-of-network ATMs will increase from $2.00 to $2.50. ATM operator fees may also apply.
Free In-Network MoneyPass® ATMs:
Effective immediately, all Bluebird Customers can withdraw funds for free when using in-network MoneyPass ATMs. You can find one of the more than 24,000 MoneyPass ATMs below.
ATM Withdrawal Limits Increase:
We have increased your daily ATM limit, so you can withdraw up to $750 per day. Your monthly ATM withdrawal limit will remain at $2,000.

I just did the exact same thing. It says on the email that if you don't send in the info within 10 business days, the application will be cancelled. I plan to just wait and re apply using the correct address.

Interesting, it doesn't say that on the email they sent me. I'll just create a new email and do it again. Thanks for the help!

Edit: I just did the google email trick by adding a . to use the same email address and set up a new account username and password with her address and was able to register her. Email verification sent and was able to log into the new account.

This happened with my GF also, who has different last name but lives with me. She called in to verify. A few simple questions and she was all set.

Had a lovely experience with a WM cashier. Was offloading several cards and it was busy at 8pm, so was getting ready to leave regardless. The lady in front of me had issues swiping for debit payment, however the cashier grabbed her card and did it for her, somehow prompting it correctly. I should have taken that as a sign but talked myself into staying. Of course, swiping VGC did not prompt for PIN for me and pushy cashier said I was doing something wrong, told me to give her my card. I prompted her to wait and let me try it again, had to pull the bait and switch in order to swap for my real debit card. Waste of $200 load to Bluebird but staying under the radar is worth it I think.

Watch out for the pushy, older women cashiers who think they know everything.

This happened the other day with my temp PP debit from CVS, except she didn't even look at the card and didn't care. Didn't work on the POS terminal on my side, so she took it, swiped it, and bob's your uncle.

I had a fairly entertaining encounter at a CVS today. A semi-homeless woman walked up behind me as I was buying a VR (she was there just to cash in her coins from panhandling for solid bills so she use them in the vending machine for scratch off lotto tickets). She noticed the total as I swiped my card and said "haven't you ever heard of having CASH in your pocket!" as she shook her head in disgust. I didn't say anything . . .

Really not trying to be a jerk, but can we please make an effort to keep this thread about Bluebird? It's always way too long as it is, with questions getting asked over and over.

To not be excessively hypocritical, I'll add that I loaded my usual 1k today to my BB account at a MC using Visa GC. No issues, smooth as always. Sky isn't falling just yet ^

I've been loading anywhere between $80-$100 from my PayPal debit MasterCard to my Bluebird account online for the past couple of months. I usually only do $400-500 a month, never pushing the limit. But today when I tried to load $80 from that same account, Bluebird would not let me, saying that I have to call the 800 number to verify identity. But I can still pay bills..Anybody else have to deal with this? What will they ask?

This is a known this, and the smart people do not link ANYTHING to thier BB cards.... They will ask you to prove that the paypal card is yours and to send them proof. It is just a hassel...

I had this same thing happen to me last month after a couple repeating scheduled $100 loads went through. They want to verify the debit card is yours.

I called, they verified via a 3 way call with Paypal (apparently there's a difference between Paypal Bank and a Paypal Account). After getting the Paypal rep on the line, he verified my account information, and I was all set. Nothing to send in or anything. I've since resumed my scheduled loads, spaced out so it happens at regular weekly intervals, so that I'll typically reach the $1000 limit by the end of the month.

Quick question. I usually only load VRs to my BB but today when I tried to buy some money orders with GCs the Walmart employee flipped out on me so I decided to just unload them to my BB via the kiosk instead. The kiosk seemed to work fine until the payment part. I swiped the GC and entered my pin, but then it asked for another pin, and this time as I entered numbers they were not starred out, but completely visible. I could not get past this point. Do you have to enter another number after your GC pin when loading via the kiosk?

Let me clarify - you can link a REAL bank account to BB and move funds without any issue.

It is the known PREPAID cards that can cause all sorts of issues.

Issues Paying bills through BB?

Is anyone else having issues using "Pay Bills" feature on BB? I have tried 3-4 times during last week and each time I tried, it gave me the message "Down for maintenance. Try after couple of hours".
I need to pay my utilities bill.
Is it just me or anyone else also having this problem?
Thanks!

Bill pay not working

I've been having the same problem. My laptop, my iPad, the office computer, my tablet. This morning I used my laptop, used google chrome, didn't agree to any updates, got the old bluebird screen we had before and paid five things back to back. All was good. So, my suggestion is try a different browser....I did call in earlier in the week and was told to clear cookies, change browser etc.
