A new thread was created for the new year in 2017. This is the old thread. For the 2017 on this topic, go here: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/manufactured-spending/1819562-cvs-master-thread-2017-a.html
CVS is cash only for all Incomm-related reloads and reloadable cards, including Vanilla Reloads and Serve swipe reloads. See memo to stores for complete list. Other cards at CVS can still be bought using credit, but YMMV depending on location, Manager, etc.
New limits rolling out starting 10/20:
Transactions with $300 or more of card face value require ID.
Limit $2000 of card face value per 24 hour rolling period.
Limit of 10 cards per 24 hours.
Cashback posted in 48 hours.
Cash Register Freezing
Multiple reports that the CVS cash register will freeze and lock after scanning the ID when purchasing multiple prepaid cards. Then the register's computer needs to be restarted. Some report that "swiping" the ID instead of "scanning" will avoid the issue.
Limit of 7 tenders (swipes) per transaction. This is most commonly run into when using low-value AGCs. After seven, the transaction must be complete, no cash (or any other payment method) will be accepted to pay the balance.

The register was saying that there was an error and the transaction had to be voided. All this had nothing to do with my DL or CC, because it was tried as a stand-alone $500 purchase, and before I swiped my CC. I'm assuming that the In com network was down.

That would make sense. I think everything is going through some updates.

Loading VRs
I just had trouble loading VRs also. The screen kept saying I entered the wrong captchka. I just clicked the load button again, and it went through. It did the same thing for the second card I loaded. I checked my PP Prepaid account, and verified the funds are there.

No report yet of a working load to BB over the new website?
I loaded this morning using the phone option. GREAT tip from whoever pointed out that method. I'd never even thought of it. I'm going to start doing that in-store or in-car right after purchase.

Well, it looks like CVS does not have Amex Prepaid (in Blue) cards anymore, they substituted them with Serve cards. Another thing is that for some reason 5 CVS near me in TPA do not stock VRs anymore. Their delivery truck comes every week, but still no VRs.

Second hand info, but what I was told was that it's the store manager's discretion to keep the VR's in stock. And since the amount of VR's sold do not count toward any of the store's performance targets metrics, sometimes they just don't bother to order more.

I would give it a bit more time. They seem to be rolling out slowly.

Success, about 5 minutes ago. It took quite a few tries to get it to go through. I didn't get a confirmation for one of the two loaded, but I got the email from BB saying it was successful.

Also, gleff just posted a mention on his blog of VR availability near the Frequent Traveler U meeting site last month. Looks like they grow on trees down there; I'm jealous!
Great to hear! So the sky has not fallen.

Just managed to load 2 VRs to my account and 2 to my wife's less than an hour ago. System was pretty glitchy, at one point it came back and said "This PIN has already been loaded." I panicked a bit, thinking I might have gotten a tampered card. But then I tried again and it worked.
