A new thread was created for the new year in 2017. This is the old thread. For the 2017 on this topic, go here: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/manufactured-spending/1819562-cvs-master-thread-2017-a.html
CVS is cash only for all Incomm-related reloads and reloadable cards, including Vanilla Reloads and Serve swipe reloads. See memo to stores for complete list. Other cards at CVS can still be bought using credit, but YMMV depending on location, Manager, etc.
New limits rolling out starting 10/20:
Transactions with $300 or more of card face value require ID.
Limit $2000 of card face value per 24 hour rolling period.
Limit of 10 cards per 24 hours.
Cashback posted in 48 hours.
Cash Register Freezing
Multiple reports that the CVS cash register will freeze and lock after scanning the ID when purchasing multiple prepaid cards. Then the register's computer needs to be restarted. Some report that "swiping" the ID instead of "scanning" will avoid the issue.
Limit of 7 tenders (swipes) per transaction. This is most commonly run into when using low-value AGCs. After seven, the transaction must be complete, no cash (or any other payment method) will be accepted to pay the balance.

I didn't have any problem getting a couple yesterday with two separate transactions. They were old styles too.

There's only one way to liquidate VRs, which is on their website. It knows on its own how much is loaded, once you put in the card info. Why do you have to remember exact various amounts?

Well, I'm sitting out here on the island of OGG, and made my Long's (CVS) run this morning. I can tell ya, the Long's in Kihei has 5 pegs of VR,s. didn't buy any there cuz I wanted to make a Costco run, and the Long's in Kahului has 5 pegs of VRs too. Had to educate the sweet young checker, that "no just cuz it says $20 doesn't mean I could have only $20. Manager called, I took my usual 1K, and ask the manager " what was the Max I could do on VR's a day? She said she would check, and came back with $5K.
I don't care to go to Lahaina, just a SW guy on this island. But for you that want VR's, as of this day, there are many. Oops, sorry, Very Many.

The seminar is in the northwest suburbs. I'm sure the CVS's around that neck of the woods will be cleared. But, most of the stores I frequent are well a field of that neck of the woods, deep into residential areas of the city. No where near O'Hare or downtown. Most of the out of towners would not venture that far into neighborhoods they are unfamiliar with. They would need rental cars. Way to difficult to get from seminar area using public transportation and taxis way too expensive.

Everything's back normal in my area after the shortage for about 2 weeks (Southeast) and it was restocked with old style beans.
However, I had my ID scanned for loading 2 beans for 495. I also had a $25 gas GC in the mix. Not sure if the total (GC value >1000) amount triggered the ID scan.
Appreciate any feedback.
