A new thread was created for the new year in 2017. This is the old thread. For the 2017 on this topic, go here: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/manufactured-spending/1819562-cvs-master-thread-2017-a.html
CVS is cash only for all Incomm-related reloads and reloadable cards, including Vanilla Reloads and Serve swipe reloads. See memo to stores for complete list. Other cards at CVS can still be bought using credit, but YMMV depending on location, Manager, etc.
New limits rolling out starting 10/20:
Transactions with $300 or more of card face value require ID.
Limit $2000 of card face value per 24 hour rolling period.
Limit of 10 cards per 24 hours.
Cashback posted in 48 hours.
Cash Register Freezing
Multiple reports that the CVS cash register will freeze and lock after scanning the ID when purchasing multiple prepaid cards. Then the register's computer needs to be restarted. Some report that "swiping" the ID instead of "scanning" will avoid the issue.
Limit of 7 tenders (swipes) per transaction. This is most commonly run into when using low-value AGCs. After seven, the transaction must be complete, no cash (or any other payment method) will be accepted to pay the balance.

When on weekly sale sometimes some items can be much cheaper than being bought in our local grocery store chain. Otherwise just load an odd number such as 489.60 + 3.95. No need to throw in anything unless something on sale that you use anyway.

I finally decided to stop waiting for the VRs and go make my debut at WM. I found a CVS a stop before WM - go in there and they had 5k worth of VRs (jackpot). Bought all of them.
Just got home and saw that the strip at the back has been changed the 2nd time. I think that is why its out in most cvs.

What are you guys talking about the strip? All the new ones have SERVE on the front, and the strip is different from the old ones. The old ones do not have SERVE, only AMEX logo.
On some locations of CVS, they still have the old ones and old ones only. And, the stocks of these old ones are getting depleted, but no new ones appearing.

Looks like vrs are pulled out from all cvs. I don't buy lots of vrs and yesterday I checked at 5 cvs stores and none were to be found. Ofcourse I never talk to them about coming there to look for vrs.

i think more products use this as well - like "repower" is advertized in the front as well now. The strip is also totally different.
I saw a blog also post a picture of it. I am glad it changed - at least that gives a good reason why VRs again dried up.

CVS out of stock for VR's? I think not! I have five CVS stores that I can buy from and they are seach stocked, new and old strips. I notice at the beginning of the month when I do my purchases they are all reloaded so there are always plenty to be had.

At least for the moment, around your area. Perhaps, the CVS near you had a stock pile in the back. After that dries...who knows.

Nice, then all the MC PrePaid with rePower should be able to load. It's like that netSpend thing....you can use VRs to load PP PrePaid, etc., etc. I guess 3rd generation VRs now out.

VRs are plentiful around here - Bucks County PA & Mercer County NJ - and the cashiers are all well versed in the routine. ^
