A new thread was created for the new year in 2017. This is the old thread. For the 2017 on this topic, go here: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/manufactured-spending/1819562-cvs-master-thread-2017-a.html
CVS is cash only for all Incomm-related reloads and reloadable cards, including Vanilla Reloads and Serve swipe reloads. See memo to stores for complete list. Other cards at CVS can still be bought using credit, but YMMV depending on location, Manager, etc.
New limits rolling out starting 10/20:
Transactions with $300 or more of card face value require ID.
Limit $2000 of card face value per 24 hour rolling period.
Limit of 10 cards per 24 hours.
Cashback posted in 48 hours.
Cash Register Freezing
Multiple reports that the CVS cash register will freeze and lock after scanning the ID when purchasing multiple prepaid cards. Then the register's computer needs to be restarted. Some report that "swiping" the ID instead of "scanning" will avoid the issue.
Limit of 7 tenders (swipes) per transaction. This is most commonly run into when using low-value AGCs. After seven, the transaction must be complete, no cash (or any other payment method) will be accepted to pay the balance.

Longs has been bought out by CVS and I went to about 5 different stores on Oahu. 4/5 were stocked and had enough for me to buy $5k at a time. 3 of those 4 that were stocked let me put $5k at a time while one limited me to $1k per day. All paid for on my credit card.

This is programmed by Incomm by SKU. There are 2 kinds of magnetic stripe cards. One type you find in Walgreens and these are not triggered by Incomm as cash only - they are cash only due to Walgreen's POS. The other is like you find in 7-11 and these are triggered by incomm as cash only. Why they have so many variations of 1 product is beyond me.
Use your imagination as to how I can report this.

Hey, some of the best beer and booze prices too. Better than Costco most of the time.

Yes, CVS bought Longs in CA and HI a couple years ago. All were changed to CVS EXCEPT, in Hawaii. Too good of a well known name there, in the Islands. A lot of the products on the shelves, at Longs is CVS. Last time there, the clerks ask if I had a CVS card. This next week I'll have it with me. I am not a "player' of the paranoid crowd, so check, scan, do whatever, If I can walk into one of the two Longs in mid OGG AND they have VRs and take my CC?? Who am I to argue with that?

Seems like Oahu is the only way for MS/VRs.

Lots of competition in NYC. My friend still always gets his because he's now text buddies with an employee who gives him the low down. For me, my wife does the VR hunting around her work in Wash Heights

I'm going for $2K per transaction this month (4 cards) to feed my birds.
I figure if they are scanning the license anyway, might as well save on the number of stops I have to make.

i have been seeing "serve" card lately in my CVS (cant find vanilla reload).
fee is much cheaper @ 2.95 but I am not clear if i can use the card without registering the card to amex.
I do have bluebird, so i dont want to cause problem, so I dont bother to try it.
anyone has try this?
