Here's some interesting math:
Just booked JFK-SCL-JFK on LA in May for $927 in C class. Would normally cost 100,000 AAdvantage miles, so equivalent cost is $0.00927. Pretty good, I'd say. Cheaper than a number of methods, almost as cheap as New OD + VR + BB. And will earn about 13,000 AAdvantage miles, about 10,000 hard. |

The question is whether CVS will allow you to use multiple GCs to buy one bean.

I just gave this a try and it was a no go even with the manager
The CVS POS system is designed to determine (at least from Vanilla GCs) the available and remaining balance of a GC while completing the transaction. If you have one GC with $200 value and another with $500 value, it will take the $200 from the first GC and then prompt you on the POS terminal screen to pay the balance due - which you can use the other GC to fulfill. Just stick the GC in the card slot of the POS terminal and watch the screen for prompts on how to proceed. The FOP should be 'credit card' unless using a GC with a PIN. |
tried that, it wouldnt even take the first one.

Hopefully you didn't ask the manager or cashier first - if it needs to be repeated, never, ever *ask* if you can do something - just do it.

I usually swipe and press credit immediately so that there's no question in anyone's mind how we're handling the transaction. Then I immediately hand the card to the cashier right side up so that all they have to do is grab it and type in the last four. I even sometimes suggest that they'll need the last four if they seem hesitant. As soon as they put those in, you're golden. They relax and realize there is absolutely nothing wrong with the transaction. |

Also, a few weeks ago, I purchased with a GC and paid the remainder on a CC. no problems at the same store as you (however, a different location and likely a different state). It may be store dependent and very well may be even cashier dependent. |

Nice fare, I would pay for that ticket as well. Just slightly higher than the OD method and so much easier, actually probably more profitable with your 10,000 miles your earning.
Also, I miscalculated the miles - with class of service bonuses it will earn 17,108 AA miles, which would probably cost me around $175 to make, so fare just went down to around $750ai. Insane. |
