No alcohol still on short haul/ASEAN J flights?
Hey all,
I haven’t flown MH short haul since Jan 2020, but have a few upcoming SH flights coming up. If I remember correctly, there wasn’t any champagne, wine, or any booze for that matter on my short haul flights back then. Is that still the case? Thanks!

MH 704 KUL - MNL Friday Jan 27. 3 hrs 45 Mins.NO ALCOHOL.
Passengers in J were not happy.
I flew the PR code share PR526 the same day. Alcohol served including Champagne - according to the label. The food was absolutely deadful. The cabin was full - probably because of upgrade bids. I spent the flight sitting in premium economy behind J, which was empty!

Flew HKT-KUL-HKT in J recently. No alcohol as expected. A tiny (I mean TINY) hot meal served both ways. Really, really basic service.

That's probably a catering fail. If HKG and TPE get booze I'm surprised to hear PVG doesn't. Actually, given the state of things, I'm not that surprised...

Yeah, probably a catering fail - KUL-PVG is a 4+ hours and in J is a BA 140 tier point flight.
I wouldn't have gone so far as to say MH used to be a good airline, but it was perfectly OK, and certainly used to represent good value for money. Sadly that is no longer the case! However, if they can get as many bums on seats as they used to but command much higher prices, why wouldn't they?

Good to know, but looks like others have been caught by surprise on >3hr flights recently
On another note, does anybody have any opinion on whether it is worth pre-booking meal (Chef on Call) ex-KUL? (sorry for hijacking the thread on a different topic)

Was expecting no alcohol on KUL - DPS today. 3 hrs 5 mins. But pleasantly surprised to see alcohol even Duval Leroy champagne. Excellent crew but a very tired plane.

KUL-DPS now has wine even for Y. The crew was not very proactive in offering it, serving it together with beverages after meal distribution for the whole cabin. The wine itself was insipid and completely forgettable.
And good news, KUL-BKK now offers Carlsberg beer for Y.
