Middle name
 
Hi everyone
I booked a flight with an agent (getaflight uk) to LHR-KUL-HAN, and their site did not request a middle name, only 'First Name' and 'Surname', so I only entered my first name, not middle name. I have a middle name on my passport.

I've spoken to MH, they've told me my middle name needs to be on the booking for all international flights if it's on my passport, and I might be denied boarding if it's not on the ticket

I've spoken to the getaflight, they've asked my to pay £250 for a name correction if I want my middle name added to the booking, as I should have entered my middle name along with my first name in the 'first name' field.

Do I really need my middle name on the ticket, and as their booking form clearly only asks for first name and surname, not first names, what are my rights to get them to add my middle name without paying the name correction charge?

My partner has a middle name and never ever had it on a flight ticket.

Your experience with these agents just reflects the overall mediocrity of this airline.

Middle name is not required. You will be fine. I never use my middle name for flights

Obviously, when you ask specifically, MH will reply that full name is required; no agent will take the risk confirming that middle name is not required. Much easier to tell you that full name is required. And for sure, when you ask the OTA, you will have to pay for the service.

You have no right to require ticket to be reissued with your middle name without costs; but as stated above it is not needed at all.

While I agree they're rather chaotic (to say the least), just about every airline's call centre will tell you the same thing. Even if it's not really required.

Had a similar issue with BA before, my partner his middle name was not in the booking and had been a silver member for years. At some point at check in at Changi the agent for BA refused to process him because of the middle name missing. Now we no longer take the chance, we updated the exec club entry and each ticket booked to the exact match for both of us.

I've recently read a report of Malaysia Airlines refusing boarding when middle name missing, but can't confirm the where they were traveling to/from (might have been USA). Trying to get the info from the passenger.

Malaysia Airlines have told me now they can add a middle name 48hrs before travel for 150MYR fee, but don't really want to chance that as it's taken me 2 days to get through to the call center (long queues and repeated call drops, conflicting information), and they refuse to put anything in "black and white" (as they say it) when I ask them to confirm the middle name requirements and name change options in an email. I've spoken to my credit card provider, at least they tell me they would refund me in this situation as my middle name was not requested when booking.

Speaking as someone who's flown a mile or two with MH.....relax.

I've travelled with no middle name, middle but no first name, or with the "wrong" salutation. Not once have I been denied boarding. Only time it ever came up at check in was when they had trouble entering my FFP number once or twice, but never was my identity in question.

For what it's worth, this isn't the first time someone has asked this in the MH forum.

Please could I ask what was your outcome?
I booked through a travel agent who only required my first and last name but in passenger details Malaysia airlines says middle name must be included and now I’m worried

You'll be fine. Middle names (or lack thereof) on MH are not an issue.
