Looking at these webpages it doesn’t look as if there is any free change/refund policy in place at this time.

Just called MH. They didn't publicise the policy online.... need to call them to check.

Effective from Jan 24 until May 31, the policy applies to 4 mainland destinations (PEK, PVG, CAN, XMN) only and it is as follows:
1. Free refund for travel between now till Feb 14
2. Change fee waived, but the cost of fare differences still applies... This policy is very strange...

Hope that helps

I have KUL-CAN in J coming up shortly. Wanted to change destination to HKG. No success, there wasn’t even an option to pay. Only option is to buy a new ticket. I’m sticking to the original plan, not too worried.

Tried to refund a KUL to HKG and had no luck. Insisted they file a report with management to see if they will reconsider especially when HK has declared it as an "emergency".

They Accepted to change 3 tickets for me (Z class) without any fee and fare difference on the 25th, I thought it was very generous as I was to travel one month later out of PVG but I decided to leave the city ASAP

I am wonder if most airline act based on government decision on china travel or some of them are doing it based on goodwill. But MH usually only act based on government overall decision, which not suprises since the majority share own by government. Especially now government still want China tourist to come instead of halting the entiee visa waiver program

They just updated the travel advisory, refund or flight change before 31 May 2020 is allow. Since they did not say if based on ticket condition, we may just assume all type of ticket refund is available?

Anyone has luck changing their Hong Kong ticket free of charge?

As they indicated to/from Mainland China, so free change or full refund HKG is not included. But you might HUCA a few times to see if you can get some luck.

I doubt they would allow as the load to HKG is so low for Mah, they might need the non refundable/ change fee to cover the operating cost

Called MH today and they said apart from mainland China has a waiver, no other destination has a waiver even though travel restrictions now applies to Singapore etc.

Anyone with non refundable tickets with immediate dates to fly are a bit stuck

weird thing happening on my booking, my seat on KUL-PVG mid February has been changed several time today, aircraft type as changed to 333 as well,
all J fare were 0ed this afternoon, now some flight are open again (evening flight on A333 only it seems) and most seat in the cabin are blocked, I guess that there will be some cancelation coming

May not be related, but the state of Sabah has announced a restriction on Chinese nationals flying direct from China into Sabah.

https://www.malaysiaairlines.com/cn/...ion-sabah.html

Very weird as non-Chinese passport holders are exempt, and MH are offering to reroute passengers from Shanghai - Kota Kinabulu (MH395) to Shanghai - Kuala Lumpur - Kota Kinabulu (so they are not restricting entry to passengers from China - but are only not allowing them to enter on a direct flight).

That might at least account of the rejuggling of aircraft and flight loads on the PVG-KUL route.
