upgrade to A380 first?

For some routes being operated by the A380, I am not seeing tickets being sold in first, e.g., HKG to KUL.
Do you know if and how to upgrade? bid? miles? status?

Airbus 380 KUL-NRT-KUL
Malaysia Airlines using a380 on SYD-KUL flights

Same story for HKG.

They've been quietly sending the A380 to HKG, MEL and SYD during peak periods. I remember MH72/73 got the A380 back in Feb, though I haven't been keeping track of its deployment.

Fingers crossed that MAS does not consider Aug. to be "peak period".
Booked 2 fights to HKG & I'd prefer the A330 vs. the older, more tired & worn out brother/sister - the A380.

I don't know about J, but I would take the MH A380 anyday as opposed to A330/B737 in Y. The Y cabin on the upper deck is only 9 rows, so it feels like J and you have plenty of legroom and storage bins between the seat and the window. Can't even compare to their seats on the 738, in which I can't even physically fit if the load is full.

I would much prefer two seats to myself at the back of a quiet main cabin. Tons of space without having to deal with small cubbyholes. I can't remember the last time I've been on the A380 with a J cabin that's more than 2/3 full.

To each his own, I suppose

Apart from the usual JED charters, ICN seems to be an A380 destination.

I think LHR is supposed to get a seasonal A380 upgrade later this summer but I'm not sure if that's still on. Keep an eye out for NRT, HKG, SYD and MEL as they're potential A380 destinations.
