Yes, go with the Sama Sama Express KLIA.

It’s by the hour, <50 MYR for a standard room with a minimum 6hour stay. So as you’ll likely book a ~8hr stay, <USD100.

(Also, make sure it is not the Sama Sama Express klia2 either.)

and check OTA's if you can get a better deal than booking directly with the hotel. Odd but seems Sama Sama are pretty relaxed over revenue management.

but if you're already connecting to LHR in J, if it was me, I'd just walk / use the lounge and spend the money at outlets in the airport (if you must) ... then sleep on the plane.

For your timing, not advised to go to KLIA2 since the KLIA-KLIA2 trains stop at around 1am.

You might want to check if all your flights are still operating about a week out (especially BKK-KUL) if you are traveling between now and May. MH has reduced a lot of intra-Asia frequencies in the past few days.

If you have a longer layover, I'd suggest taking the train down to KL Sentral for a night at the Aloft/Hilton/LM. Train tickets are RM100 for a roundtrip (and you get 10% if you buy the tickets from the vending machine). Rooms in KL are extremely cheap, even cheaper with the SARS-CoV-2. You can easily get a room at the Aloft for around RM200 a night. RM300 will get you a RT ticket and a night at the Aloft (plus an elite night credit if that's what you are after) and some really good Indian food close to Aloft (the total cost for 6 hours at the Sama Sama Express hotel is about the same as a night in KL Sentral). As of today, $1USD ~ RM4.17.

If sleep is more important and the transit is under 12hrs, my view is that the Sama Sama Express KLIA is still the best option.

The pros and cons of SS Express vs downtown hotels were discussed previously here and are still relevant:

If just only for sleep, I was surprise that nobody mention tune hotel for long layover like 8 to 12 hours, I would just take KLIA train to KLIA2, walk to tune hotel, either book a day room or a over night room just for a quick nap. I could also drop my luggage at check in counter first before I go over tune hotel, then I do not to worry about anything and just take my time back to KLIA

If siw is traveling within the next few weeks, MH 780/781 is canceled on most days (MH has a rather random schedule to BKK now - anywhere from 1 flight a day to 3 flights a day compared to 6-7 previously).

Thanks for the information, appreciate the FT community giving extra helpful details. I did not say when my flights are since my question was only about lounge features. This ticket is for Q4 2020, so hopefully everything will be back to normal by then. I just bought my MH ticket a few hours before the recent promo deadline at midnight on 2nd March.

Mainly because the question asker arrives around mid-night, so in this particular case, there is a chance of missing the last train between KLIA-KLIA2.

Also between the Sama Sama Express and Tune Hotel, I would rate both 3/5 for cleanness so not exactly somewhere I look forward to staying.

As for traveling down to KL, for around the same cost (RM350 hotel + RM100 train ride) one could just stay at the landside 5* Sama Sama and be in your room about 10 minutes after getting the luggage.

If you really have to get out of the airport, Putrajaya (Le Meridien, Marriort and upcoming DoubleTree) is 30 minutes away by car and usually about RM100 cheaper than their KL counterparts. Only Le Meridien Putrajaya and Everly Hotel Putrajaya is connected to Malls. Which if you don't have transport is a must since Putrajaya is not walkable.

I note the website indicates the Satellite Lounges are closed.

Do any have thoughts on when the lounge might reopen?

Thankyou - I note the website had not been updated as I posted this, still indicating closed.

The press release indicates 'soon', so looking better.

It did actually reopen. Saw it when was boarding the aerotrain heading to immigration off an inbound flight and looked up.

Anyone been through the Malaysia Airlines Satellite First class Lounge since it re opened? Do they still offer the sleeper room for transit passengers?

carrotjuice Apr 11, 2022 2:16 am

There's been no more sleeper rooms since the last renovation (pre COVID). You mean the sleeper couches?

SullyofDoha Apr 12, 2022 1:56 pm

Yes, I mean the room with the couches.

Does MH allow access to the international satellite (or regional) golden lounge for OW emerald when arriving on SQ and connecting to a domestic MH flight?

I’d be in the international transit area due to the SQ arrival, but not sure if they’ll refuse lounge access there and redirect me to the domestic lounge…
Would be nice to use the satellite first class section!
