MH A330 versus JAL 787 J Recommendation

So I am flying KUL - NRT in JAL J (MH Codeshare) and coming back NRT - KUL on the MH A330

I chose to fly the JAL 787 to NRT over the MH330 product (code share - same price).

Think I made a wise choice?

Never flown both so will be interesting to compare.

It's always good to try both if you haven't flown either. I think only MH has full flat beds though.

Have flown both, JL on the SkySuite 767, MH on the 330 with old sloping seats.

MH - Good satay. Poor seat. Variable service. Amenity Kit

JL - Great catering. Slower but more detailed and consistent service. IFE content better.

Personally prefer JL. Not sure how the JL 787 fares against MH new J.

KUL gets JL's 787-9s with the new-ish long-haul Sky Suite product ^

As all the MH A330s have been retrofitted, both carriers offer lie-flat products on this route.

The JL SS9 product is a fair bit better than the MH333 product IMHO.

I think you'll get better service on MH though.

Wow i thought the Japanese were known for their exemplary service culture?

In any case excited to try both.. the biggest issue is not being able to select seats on the MH codeshare flight though

If you can pull up the native JL reference, you can assign seats.

I didn't say JL's service was poor. I just think i like MH's style a bit better

My son had an AA award on JL in business. Once I had the JL PNR it was possible to select seats, but is was quite a challenge to find the correct web portal to do this, and then the name entry format was also extremely fussy.

The 'fail' messages were not helpful, so it was trial and error...and a lot of persistence!

I *think* you have to go to the specific webpage of your departure region. I can't pull up my ex-USA booking without going to the North American page.

But then again, I can't be too sure with the JL website. It's far too complex for me to handle! The folks over at the JL forum would be able to help.

AA-ticketed, JL-operated flights' seats can be selected. A MH-ticketed, JL-operated flight's seat cannot be selected - I've tried it before, but was told it was not possible.

I'd say go JL - While in-flight personal service is normally good on both, JL on the ground is much better, as are their seats, especially if they're the Apex seats - much wider, and still long enough for a 6ft person.

I think JL has higher quality catering and seat but MH has amazing satays. Glad you are trying out both. Let us know which airline you prefer
