Malaysia Airlines fare classes

Can someone help me find the MH fare classes. Have tried to do a booking and there are many different options for Y class fares, but I cannot find anywhere that explains them!

As always, thanks in advance for anyone who can help.

If you're booking through the MH website, the price summary page has a Fare Rules link that pops up the fare description, including the six(?)-digit basis.

You can also look for the same pricing via Expedia or Orbitz, as fare classes are always shown for Y bookings.

I think rules and charges differ between points of sale, but in general:

Promo = LCC ticket-ish. Ranges from no date changes, to severe penalty or re-price to day-of-date fares.

Basic/Smart = Change fee involved but there should be quite some availability in Smart so chances of a re-fare is lower

Flex = Supposedly no change fees and refundable (perhaps with penalties). Haven't checked flex conditions in a while so I'm not sure.

On a similar point, I'm searching for a Business Class fare and the MH website shows just a single fare under "Business'. I understand there are some fares that don't credit to OW FF programmes (I is one I think). I can't find any way of knowing which class the fare is.

Any ideas?

"I" class is the booking code for upgraded economy fares. I don't think they are available for sale.

By the way,I keep seeing on here that folks refer to MH as Malaysian Airlines, whereas it's Malaysia Airlines (without "n").

People who dare to call BA "British" or "British Air" e.t.c. get lots of critisizm in return on here,so let's respect MH too.

Yes, and yet people keep saying "Malaysian" Airlines.

MH is no more Malaysian Airlines as SQ is Singaporean Airlines.

Agreed.

I do still remember back in the day when SQ and MH were MSA. :

Hi folks, apologies for resurrecting an old thread.

Have booked an MH flight as an Emirates codeshare... the Emirates itinerary is J class. The MH leg is showing as fare class 'T' on the MH website. I've searched here and on Google but can't find an explanation of this fare code. Indeed, even this page on the MH website doesn't explain.

Can anyone help me out?

Thanks in advance!

(PS. just as a point of interest, the same Emirates itinerary includes a flight on Jetstar Asia too. This entitled me to 30kg checked luggage, $20 in flight meal catering voucher and free seat selection. Curious if we'll get anything similar on MH - my first time flying them!)

I agree, though in terms of MH, there was a time when the airline was called Malaysian Airline System (MAS), so it's not too wrong to call it Malaysian, especially by the more senior of us here . Qantas on the other hand was never called "Quantas" so that is a massive mistake, and BA has always been called BA so....
