Malaysia Airlines new alcohol policy

Flew Kul-Bkk today business class and was told by the FA that MH no longer serves alcohol on flights less than 3 hours. Apparently this new policy was effective as of January 1.

I was also at the MH Regional lounge and was told no alcohol before 9am. This second policy appears to be a little fluid as I contacted a manager and this decision (at least for me) was rescinded.

As far as I'm concerned, I am done with MH. The food in J is now abysmal (satay excepted), no champagne on 3 of 4 flights in the last week and terrible irrops handling. If the alcohol policy is true, I can imagine the whole airline going dry in the near future, just to save a few ringgit.

Like you, champagne was 'not available' on a longer Asian flight on MH before Christmas, where it was listed on the wine list in business class.

We had no issue with wine and gin on the KUL-BKK flight, again flown before Christmas.

If this is a new policy, I have not been able to find anything out about it on the MH website. It seems strange to lose product consistency, especially in business class, where customers are connecting.

Considering the CEO came from an LCC I would not be surprised

While the COO is definitely from Ryanair, Aer Lingus Is most definitely a full-service airline.

I believe that Mueller's whole career has been with full-service airlines too?

Any recent observations about the alcohol policy?

In Bangkok over the pst week, and a friend-of-a-friend who flies frequently BKK-KUL-BKK said the policy was in place. He was a very unhappy person, and was particulalry annoyed that there had been no forewarning.

Going forward the fares should be reduced to reflect this drop in service provided.

I have 4 regional flights coming up with a couple that are less than 3 hours. At the time of booking last year the product offered was different to what I will receive.

I am not an alcoholic and can go 0-3 hours without a drink but if I pay for a premium product/service I expect to get it.

We will be flying MH domestically and internationally in April. I realize our domestic flights will not offer alcohol in C. Our international flights are TPE-BKI (blocked at 3:30) and KUL-DPS (blocked at 3:00, we are on MH715, the other MH KUL-DPS flights are blocked at 3:05). Any experiences on these flights, re: how "under 3 hours" is implemented? Is it based on blocked time?

Like others here, I realistically would only have a beer or two but this may affect how much I bid on MHUpgrade for these flights.

KUL-SIN beer
KUL-DPS no beer
DPS-KUL beer

Doesn't make sense.

What was the time of departure for each flight?

Goodbye MAS...Policy Again Confirmed

Just flew Jakarta - KL and was told about this 3 hour no alcohol policy.

About to board KL - Ho Ch Minh and dreading the same bad news.

Guess I'll stick with Singapore Airlines and Garuda for future flights out of Jakarta!

Poor decision that will only drive away passengers.
