MHUpgrade is MH's implementation of Plusgrade's bid on an upgrade platform.
  • You can check if your itinerary is eligible for bidding on an upgrade (most are) on MH's website here, but it typically takes 24-48 hours after the ticket is issued for the itinerary to be in Plusgrade's system
  • You cannot bid for flights departing within 72 hours
  • Minimum bids are dynamically set based on various factors, and don't appear to change as you get closer to flight departure
  • Tip: If you're bidding the minimum, you should consider making the bid in USD unless bidding in your home currency avoids credit card costs that are higher than the difference in pricing (see this post)
  • Bid amounts can be changed or withdrawn up to 72 hours from flight departure. It does not appear that you can update the credit card number
  • Accepted bids will be processed within the 72 hours window, generally prior to 48 hours to departure
  • If your bid is accepted:
    • The credit card will be charged
    • You will be rebooked in "I" class for business class, "P" class for first class
    • You will receive an email notification from Plusgrade
    • You will receive an email with your new eTicket from the airline
  • Within MH Enrich, mileage accrual is based on the fare class on your original ticket. For partner programs, without manual intervention, your mileage accrual is based on the class you've been rebooked into, not the one from your original ticket. Retro claims based on original booking may be required, it is unclear yet if they will be accepted or not.
    • Note that "I" earns nothing, including no segment credits or tier points (it's as if you never took the flight) on AA, BA, CX, and probably other carriers (check your program's information), so from a frequent flyer standpoint you might end up worse off
    • There are multiple reports from multiple users in this thread that mileage on partner programs (BA) will be credited based on the earning rates (if any) from original booking class, following manual intervention/claim.
  • Please read MH's FAQs

MHupgrade.....Don't waste your time

I had successfully got upgraded when the MHupgrade was first introduced a few years ago.Since then, the lowest bid price has gone up to rediculous level you might as well buy a normally business class ticket, and could be even cheaper. It is a hoax or maybe the staff in MHupgrade dept do not do their job in monitoring the bid by lowering the price level more realistic level nearer to the departure date. The staff just let the bid go on and close without even want to adjust for greater sales. That is the sad thing about MAS.All the prsent staff should be dismissed and reapply so that that good and hard working one selected.
Another thing is the aircraft they used for AKL KL flight is so old and the staff want to maintain the price to fight with SIA.The SIA economy is very much better then the MAS business.Mark my word!

Datapoint: I have a DPS/KUL flight on 17 February 2019. The lowest bid is MYR480 (I have a Q class Promo ticket).

I didn't bid as I don't think it is worth it on a 737.

Anyone who had their successful Mh upgrade bid accepted only to experience an aircraft change (wide body A330/A350/A380 to narrow body B737) which means a recliner instead of lie flat seats?

The hard product would be different in relation to the offer price. e.g. I'd happy to offer USD300 for a lie flat seat in a 6 hour flight, but a definite no if it was a recliner. So the aircraft change would mean I am not paying for something I am expecting. And bear in mind that for the same sector, flights offering on A330 and B737 have different minimum bid for upgrade to biz class, normally minimum bid for a B737 biz class is only half of the minimum bid for a A330 biz class for the same sector.

My question is, did MH compensate these passengers in any way because of this?

I had a brief read of their T&C and their answer is no compensation as long as they allocate you in the same class of cabin (i.e. biz class) regardless of aircraft type.

no luck mate, you answered your own question.

it's annoying yes, but it's hard to fight over these things and win. Happens often with CX too

I am booked in Y on a reward flight (using Avios via BA) in November between KUL and MNL. At the time of booking there were not enough reward seats in the J cabin for both of us.

MHUpgrade is showing booking as possibly not eligible for upgrade . Im hooing someone here may be able to advise if reward bookings are eligible for paid upgrades? If so, am I likely to need to contact MH directly? I do have a MH PNR that does return my booking on the MH site so it appears that MH are in control of the ticket.

Really appreciate any advice.

Reward bookings are not eligible unfortunately.

As for the ticket MH does not have control of the ticket - yet. The MH PNR is generated at the time of booking, but they can't touch it till departure. BA retains control. If they didn't, and for example, you had to cancel and refund it, who'd refund your avios and taxes?

Thank you TGflyergirl. Does that also apply to an upgrade at the airport if they are proactively trying to sell seats that would otherwise go out empty?

my experience at KLIA, upgrade at airport cannot be done at check-in counter, was asked to take a number at Customer Service Counter instead.

Price-wise was about 2x of what was the lowest bid on MH Upgrade and was told :
1. No additional sector or miles
2. Could be served meal from Economy

Check the aircraft type, if it is B737-800 then don't bother to upgrade
