MHUpgrade is MH's implementation of Plusgrade's bid on an upgrade platform.
  • You can check if your itinerary is eligible for bidding on an upgrade (most are) on MH's website here, but it typically takes 24-48 hours after the ticket is issued for the itinerary to be in Plusgrade's system
  • You cannot bid for flights departing within 72 hours
  • Minimum bids are dynamically set based on various factors, and don't appear to change as you get closer to flight departure
  • Tip: If you're bidding the minimum, you should consider making the bid in USD unless bidding in your home currency avoids credit card costs that are higher than the difference in pricing (see this post)
  • Bid amounts can be changed or withdrawn up to 72 hours from flight departure. It does not appear that you can update the credit card number
  • Accepted bids will be processed within the 72 hours window, generally prior to 48 hours to departure
  • If your bid is accepted:
    • The credit card will be charged
    • You will be rebooked in "I" class for business class, "P" class for first class
    • You will receive an email notification from Plusgrade
    • You will receive an email with your new eTicket from the airline
  • Within MH Enrich, mileage accrual is based on the fare class on your original ticket. For partner programs, without manual intervention, your mileage accrual is based on the class you've been rebooked into, not the one from your original ticket. Retro claims based on original booking may be required, it is unclear yet if they will be accepted or not.
    • Note that "I" earns nothing, including no segment credits or tier points (it's as if you never took the flight) on AA, BA, CX, and probably other carriers (check your program's information), so from a frequent flyer standpoint you might end up worse off
    • There are multiple reports from multiple users in this thread that mileage on partner programs (BA) will be credited based on the earning rates (if any) from original booking class, following manual intervention/claim.
  • Please read MH's FAQs

KUL-HKG bid $160 and got the upgrade.

Not bad considering my SIN-HKG fare was a cheap $120 economy promo fare. $280 altogether.

The interesting thing is with my upgrade clearing I was able to select 6A for the SIN-KUL flight for free in advance of the 48-hour check in window.

Business Class seat allocations are always free, even if upgraded with MHUpgrade.

athough he was pointing out that the economy seat selection for the first sector also became free because of/ perhaps due to the successful seat upgrade for the second sector.

So it appears MHUpgrade has indeed gone bonkers. I am looking at upgrading KUL-PEK. The Wiki here has an entry for MYR 345, which is 80 USD. Right now, the MHUpgrade minimum bid sits at USD190. And to get to the greener parts of the scale, I am looking at $250. Any recent experiences on KUL-PEK-KUL?
Over the last several years, I have just bought promo J fares on MH as they tend to be just a little over normal economy fares. On this one, due to a number of reasons, I couldn't. I am OWE, what are the chances of an op-up. Is this flight generally full? EF currently shows a completely empty cabin, but my departure date is about a month away.

Minimum bids have always been dynamic, so just because someone reported $80 three years ago doesn't mean you should expect an equally low amount. They've obviously decided that they can get away with charging more than $80 for a lie-flat seat, especially since the entire A333 fleet has been refurbished. $190 to upgrade on a 6 hour flight doesn't seem outrageous to me, frankly.

If you're looking for an airline that habitually gives out op-ups to elites then you'll have to fly CX/KA. Op-ups are relatively rare on MH, let alone on empty flights. Even when they do happen, Enrich elites are at the top of the list.

Expecting one on an empty flight will just lead to disappointment. If you really want J, you'll have to pony up for J.

Give me that 6hr PEK upgrade anytime compared to my slightly longer flight to MEL for almost triple that!

Yea, F’s pricey... but $855 is a hell of a lot better than #4’s $2750!!

Thinking about it, that’s about in line with the 55k miles it used to need for the one-way J->F upgrades, before the devaluation... plus, when MH is trying to sell F for $7k++, a $1.7k top-up on J is a steal...

Do you know what fare bucket the upgraded ticket goes into from Biz to F? If I credit to BA, would I get increased TP and Avios?

I suspect it's P, which doesn't earn, and if true, you'll need to file a retro claim afterwards.

Good day folks! I was wondering when is the earliest that MAS has confirmed one's upgrade bid or is it always just 48 hours prior to departure?

It's somewhere between 36hrs to 12hrs. I have had both extremes.
For awhile last year there was no notification at all - and I believe during that time nobody actually had any successful bids - But the system has been back to normal in recent months.
