MHUpgrade is MH's implementation of Plusgrade's bid on an upgrade platform.
  • You can check if your itinerary is eligible for bidding on an upgrade (most are) on MH's website here, but it typically takes 24-48 hours after the ticket is issued for the itinerary to be in Plusgrade's system
  • You cannot bid for flights departing within 72 hours
  • Minimum bids are dynamically set based on various factors, and don't appear to change as you get closer to flight departure
  • Tip: If you're bidding the minimum, you should consider making the bid in USD unless bidding in your home currency avoids credit card costs that are higher than the difference in pricing (see this post)
  • Bid amounts can be changed or withdrawn up to 72 hours from flight departure. It does not appear that you can update the credit card number
  • Accepted bids will be processed within the 72 hours window, generally prior to 48 hours to departure
  • If your bid is accepted:
    • The credit card will be charged
    • You will be rebooked in "I" class for business class, "P" class for first class
    • You will receive an email notification from Plusgrade
    • You will receive an email with your new eTicket from the airline
  • Within MH Enrich, mileage accrual is based on the fare class on your original ticket. For partner programs, without manual intervention, your mileage accrual is based on the class you've been rebooked into, not the one from your original ticket. Retro claims based on original booking may be required, it is unclear yet if they will be accepted or not.
    • Note that "I" earns nothing, including no segment credits or tier points (it's as if you never took the flight) on AA, BA, CX, and probably other carriers (check your program's information), so from a frequent flyer standpoint you might end up worse off
    • There are multiple reports from multiple users in this thread that mileage on partner programs (BA) will be credited based on the earning rates (if any) from original booking class, following manual intervention/claim.
  • Please read MH's FAQs

J-F MHUpgrades have always been very expensive, just like Enrich award rates (even before the devaluation).

Can’t speak about F MHUpgrades, but Enrich before 2015’s devaluation was actually reasonable: any J --> F was 45k one way to London. Even until the current one it wasn’t bad... 55k, it looks like.

Now however, it’s a minimum of 90k, from the J booking class... that’s going to be ~4 KUL-LON round trips in J, 5 if you earn & redeem from C/D...
(Granted, Enrich miles overall are worth a lot less, and they’ve tweaked the earning rates up for J/C/D... but before it was 2.5 flights, any Business booking class.)

Hi all

It's exactly 3 weeks before my flight.

I've checked the MHUpgrade and the minimum bid amounts have changed as follows :

SIN-KUL - S$110 (Minimum) - S Class fare (no change)
KUL-ICN - S$305 to S$310 (Minimum) - S Class fare ($5 increase)

ICN-KUL - S$370 to S$360 (Minimum) - Q Class fare ($10 decrease)
KUL-SIN - S$130 (Minimum) - Q Class fare (no change)

ICN-KUL - S$370 (Minimum) - Q Class fare
KUL-SIN - S$130 (Minimum) - Q Class fare

Note that the Q Class fare is cheaper than the S class fare. This may explain why the bids were higher on the return sectors

I did not bid as the pricing was a bit steep.

Does anyone here know what is the price quoted at check-in for upgrade from Economy to Business for the sector KUL-ICN?

Thanks.

Outright F redemption wasn't as agreeable, though

Their call centre wasn't helpful at all.

Yes, agree that normally the airline's obligation is to get one from A to B in the class purchased. Eg. in the case of a leased aircraft with inferior seating, their obligation is fulfilled too. However, mine was a last-minute upgrade option purchased separately from the ticket. So, rightly or wrongly, I disputed the transaction as "Product not as described or product faulty".

It has been six weeks since I lodged the dispute and five weeks since the disputed amount was reversed. The airline has some time to defend the dispute but I'm not sure how much. Let's see how it goes.
It has been nearly four months since I lodged the dispute and over three months since the card company reimbursed me for the amount disputed (partial amount paid). I'm hopeful that it is the end of the matter.

They're probably busy figuring out what's a fair percentage to refund you based on how many degrees the seat was away from full-flat, and percentage of the beef did you didn't consume...

KUL BKK MH796

410 MYR starting price
650 MYR max price

For travel tomorrow, 17/04/2018

I believe I don't get the miles if upgraded and since I also have OWE status, I won't be taking the offer.

Hi all

Just a quick update.

Interestingly, the "last minute upgrade" option in KLIA can only be done at the MAS ticketing counter (located next to the transfer desk). However, the MAS ticketing counter at Satellite terminal closes at 1030pm. So if your incoming connecting flight arrives after this time, you will not be able to do this last minute upgrade.

On the return leg of my journey, I was quoted a price of RM310 (S$103) for the KUL-SIN sector for the last minute upgrade. This seems to be around the minimum bid of the MHUpgrade.

can also be done at the ticketing counter, landside, at the departures level next to the check-in counters. I always find their prices to be more competitive than the online bids - the downside is that you can only do this 2 hrs before STD.

thanks, any idea of Enrich Miles can be used to upgrade at the counter ?

IMHO MH should use their Golden Lounge Counters for this sort of last minute upgrades as well ... I remember it used to be possible in the early 00's ?

no idea about using miles for upgrade at counter.

You could upgrade at the lounges as recent as 2016...not just early 00s. But following the refurbishments, the lounge desks have not been provided with any facilities to take payments

MH Upgrade time of confirmation

Hi,

Wondering if anyone received confirmation of upgrades earlier than the stated 48 hours before departure? I submitted a bid and obviously would try to have the confirmation as soon as possible because I want to select the throne seats on the A330, which I think all solo travellers will be hoping to get.
