Follow up
Since I did start this thread, it is probably required that I post a follow up with our experience...
We were in Malaysia 4/2 - 4/6. First couple of days in Cameron Highlands (Cameron Highlands Resort) and then on to KL. We stayed at the JW Marriott in KL, which was centrally located and overall excellent (upgraded to a suite on a high floor, very nice lounge for breakfast and evening cocktails, great pool, good workout facilities).
4/6, time to go for our KUL to DPS flight. We took a taxi as we decided not to try and figure out the express train to the airport.
My wife and I were both in business class on Malaysia Airlines for the flight.
- Very easy check in and luggage drop off process (it was not crowded)
- Fast through immigration
And on to the Lounge!
The lounge we went to is in the Main Terminal. It was early (9:30 or 10:00 am) in the day, and there were only a handful of people in the lounge. Very nice lounge! Big airside windows, comfortable furniture, overall a very 'classy' establishment.
There was a full self service bar. Selection of beers, red and white wine, and champagne all available to serve yourself. Also 'nice' selection of liquors including Bacardi Rum and Absolut Vodka.
Unfortunately, we were full from our big breakfast at the Marriott, so we did not eat. However, there was an extensive selection of very nice looking food - both cold and hot selections - served buffet style. I regretted the fact that I was full, because the food all looked very good!
Service was very attentive. Brought me a nice cappucino and my wife a pot of tea. Walking through regularly taking empty dishes and keeping the place clean etc.
We visited 5 lounges on our trip (SFO UA RCC in Int'l terminal, Cathay Pacific Lounge at KUL on a different flight, Malaysia - maybe shared? - lounge at JOG, HKG UA RCC, and this one, the Golden Lounge at KUL).
The Golden Lounge in KL was by far the best of all of these lounges. Clean, open, airy and spacious, good alcohol selection, good coffee and tea, and a great selection of food!
Oh, the shower rooms looked nice as well, although of course we did not use them.

Sounds like you had a wonderful time! Doesn't the Golden Lounge in KUL make the RCCs worldwide just shameful?

You'd think at SFO and HKG, with all the Int'l travellers coming through, that UA would at least make an effort to upgrade their offerings to get in to the same ballpark as their competitors...
United obviously does not put a lot of stock in to their lounges... But, we all know that. Their business model is different than Singapore, Malaysia, Cathay, etc.
We were very happy with United when SWU's cleared for both of our flights! (SFO - ICN, and HKG - SFO). Again, UA's C product is not the best in the industry, but my wife and I were very happy to have lie flat seats for these long flights. (and the food HKG to SFO was actually half decent too...)

I was thinking about having a shower at the lounge before picking up my luggage from the belt. I will be arriving early in the morning so not much traffic. Anyone have experience leaving luggage on the belt for 1.5h? Will they pick it up and store it somewhere? Could i inform the lounge agent and he could arrange that my luggage would be delivered to storage etc? Any info appreciated!

Are you 100% sure? I checked the ONE WORLD website and when i put in KUL, the MAS Golden Lounge pops up. It says Operated by a third party on behalf of: Royal Jordanian which is part of OW..

BTW... I am in the lounge now... The booze bar located towards the end of the lounge is now gone... Self service champagne bar is still there (occasionally without champagne) and some strong booze is available there... The really expensive booze is only available from the bar (I assume still for free...)
PS. Food is fabulous...

bump this older thread.
Since MH is in OW now so I guess we can use both CX & MH lounge at KUL
I will be coming in on CX 725 (HKG-KUL) continuing onto MH 179 (KUL-CMB)
For MH flight, they are currently listed as 738. What are the seat/food like in business?
Is it possible to go out the airport for a bit during the waiting time or which lounge(s) are recommended as a primary choice (I am OW Sapphire if that helps).
Thanks so much.

737-800 series. Seat like AA domestic First. Food is better than AA's.
You may go out a bit.. if you have time. But you must go through immigration. There really isn't much to see around KUL. You have to go into town for that..

Don't count on access to the KLIA lounge unless flying MAS or using status. I was denied entry while holdin a Cathay business international ticket. DESPITE showing them the one world access rules.
