Upgrade on MH from BKK to DAC

Upgrade on MH from BKK to DAC
We are both BA gold and are flying Y from BKK to Dac in November. Does MH offer sometimes free upgrades or do they offer stand by upgrades at the airport ?

Unless MH has overbooked a flight, no free upgrades will be handed out (and then to their own Elites first..)
Also, please note that on flights up to 3 hours, no alcohol is served on MH in Business class.
