New FS hotel plans (2013 onwards)

Moderator note:

I have created this new thread as a follow-on to

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showt...ferrerid=14479

because that one has gotten very long. Moved all the comments since Jan 1, 2013 to here.

Now back to the original post: (sorry, this was the only way I could figure out to list the reference to the older thread first!)

Four Seasons has been named as operator of the five-star hotel. However, doubts over this deal have emerged. ‘I believe they have pulled out,’ Livio Ranza, manager of the exclusive Aman hotel at Sveti Stefan, reveals. ‘Oliver [Corlette] asked me if Aman wanted it. I said no.

Having seen this location, I don't know why any high-end hotel operator would want it, unless they were locked into the private yacht market, which is not, necessarily high-end in terms of discernment. 30 mins away is Aman Sveti Stefan. No signs that anyone, including Four Seasons and Regent, could top this.

2 . FS Cham Island , Vietnam project is still alive and might open at the end of 2013 / Q1 2014

3. Rumour has it that FS might walk away from Damascus . The Egyptian properties are also on the radar if the situation in Egypt worsens

That's a shame, though I understand the business behind it; we had a mind-blowingly phenomenal experience there last year (well, '11).

Hummm are you sure? Since the owner of the properties is a major FS owner? Would he allow them to relinquish his 2 properties?

How about NY, are they thinking of another place?

I keep hearing rumors that they might have another one in Paris at La Defense, but this has been going on for a few years now.

I was walking through La Defense a few days ago and a tower is being currently built there (multipurpose , office spaces and hotel) really close to the Novotel and the bridge. The construction permit says "4 star hotel". Given that there is no 5 star category in France yet, It could be the FS.

There is "4* L" however (I think), and that is what most all the palace hotels are.

Under the new (1 or 2 years old) regulations, there are in France:
- 1 to 4 stars hotel
- 5 stars
- palace (one step above 5 stars)

Yes we used to have 4*Luxe but believe that doesn't exist anymore, instead we now have 5 stars and also palace !!
IRRC FS GV is not Palace, only 5* (lot of people wonder why this hotel has not been accepted under "Palace")

No, they fought it and got the Palace back, you can see the plack at the main entrance and at the employee entrance.

Wonder if the Plaza will fight for the Palace once they re-open.

Would the FS step down and manage a 4 star place?

Though if one looks at it, both FS in LA are less than 4 stars both in property and service.
