Agreed. St. Regis NY, San Fran, perhaps DC are definitely in the luxury category and can compete in their respective cities. I'd go so far as to call the SF property the best there. So, at the very, very top-end, a handful of Starwood properties are up there.

Yes I forgot about DC. I stayed there quite a bit right after 9/11 and it also very much qualifies as a luxury hotel. I haven't tried SF though. I'll have to check it out someday.

And Starwood has a number of very high end properties in Italy from their CIGA purchase. Especially in Sardinia. ^

Peninsula Hong Kong is offering one night's credit for F&B, spa, limo, etc. when you stay (exactly the T&C says) three nights. Can combine with FHR rates and benefits or it's available on their website. It seems to be available for different room types.

While exploring the new AmEx Android app, I stumbled across a link to this website: http://amexnewhotels.com/. I am not sure if it is a new site or whether it has been around a while.

What caught my attention was their 2-for-1 offers at the following properties:

Raffles Tianjin
Raffles Tianjin, positioned as a market leader, is the first luxury penthouse hotel in the heart of Tianjin.

Langham Place, Beijing Capital Airport
Making its debut this summer, Langham Place, Beijing Capital Airport is set to light up the Beijing scene, not just with its stylish looks, but also with its stimulating hospitality and sparkling service.

Hilton Fukuoka Sea Hawk
This first class high-rise hotel provides splendid views overlooking Hakata Bay and the city of Fukuoka.

The Peninsula Beijing
The Peninsula Beijing is recognized as the premier address for business and leisure travelers in the capital.

The Peninsula Hong Kong
First opened in 1928 and now one of the world’s legendary grand hotels, The Peninsula is located on Victoria Harbour with unparalleled views of Hong Kong Island.

The Peninsula Shanghai
Inspired by the Art Deco era (1920s – 30s) when Shanghai was the Pairs of the East, The Peninsula Shanghai exudes a sense of grandeur the moment you step through its doors.

Each property has their own T&C's. For example:
The Peninsula Hong Kong

I asked this Amex rate for HKG Pen Superior Harbor View Suite in March. It's 9980 HKD++ (1250$) first night and second is free. 625$++ per night seems like good deal.
On their website cheapest was 7080HKD++/night.

Mandarin Oriental DC from $156 per night w/ FHR 3rd Night free and relevant amenities.

Not the best hotel in the world, but for DC around the holidays, pretty damn cheap.

51 Buckingham Gate from 228GBP with a 4th night free ~ 170GBP per night. I don't know if it's a true luxury hotel, but the price is absolutely untouchable, and the rate is flexible too.

Any thoughts? It may not quite be the Dorchester or whatnot, but it seems to have huge bathrooms as well as nicely equipped kitchens, for the fraction of a price.
