Berlin?

Hi

Planning a w/e in Berlin...

Wondered if anyone could share their opinions on Berlin hotels.

Now trying to decide between the Ritz Carlton, the Grand Hyatt or the Rocco Forte hotel de Rome

My preference is for something more modern (which is the only reason why im not jumping for the RC)....

Also, how do the club presentations compare between the RC and the Hyatt?

Thanks so much!!

in addition to Hyatt and de Rome,

you might also want to check out http://www.brandenburger-hof.com/e/home/intro2.html
i stayed there over the summer, and thought it was terrific. (and modern) it's an SLH property.

hmm, maybe Non-NonRev has stayed at the de Rome. AFAIK he has not commented on it. http://flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=619669

Was there yesterday for some drinks in the bar and can say for sure:

Really, really impressive - by far better than the oldish Regent (Ex-Four Seasons) and the touristy Adlon!

We stayed at the new Concorde a few months ago

and liked it very much.

The Hyatt and RC are both very good. I've read good reports on the Forte but not been in yet - however, RF properties tend to be premium priced even over R-C's etc (albeit in Berlin it is still likely to be cheap!). The Hyatt and R-C are next door in Pots Platz whilst the RF is five mins walk away by the Brandenberg Gate. More shops / restaurants etc in Pots Platz if that is important.

The Hotel de Rome is actually at the other end of Unter den Linden, opposite the Humboldt University and next to the opera house.

.... in which case, you may find Postdamer Platz has more to offer in terms of nearby amenities.

i kind of preferred the brandenburger hof hotel's quiet location off the main shopping road. they even have a package with car service.

I like the Ritz and would select it.

The Ritz Carlton and Rocco Forte are both Virtuoso properties (RC is also an AMEX FHR property). In the case of the RC, you get an upgrade on arrival subj. to availability and full buffet breakfast each morning. [Disclaimer: I am a Virtuoso agent.]

The Rocco Forte has a "Suite Life" promotion with World Elite MasterCard: book a jr. suite or larger and get free internet use, one 60 minute massage, and the other Virtuoso amenities. Not a bad reason to get a World Elite card... the Saks Fifth Ave. branded card is totally free.

You can also check out the Regent hotel in Berlin... I've stayed there and loved it. Free internet!

Although I personally like the RC more than the Hyatt (sometimes ,old fashioned behaviors and rooms are a "must" for me),the Hyatt has very stylish rooms and lobby, wonderful bathrooms on the club floor and the food presentations in the lounge are delicious.(when I was there last year, smoking was allowed in the lounge,no separate room for smokers like RC offers). And the pool of the Hyatt is on the rooftop with great views over Potsdamer Platz and Tiergarten.

Apologies for the delay, my review of my mixed experience at the de Rome is now posted (linked below since this thread may move at a different pace than the review thread itself):

RC with Amex Centurion:Junior Club Suite about 250-350 Euro.Although this price already included an upgrade from Club Deluxe,RC gave me the Bellevue Suite that normally goes about 500-600 Euro.
Hyatt:I always book the Amex rate without club access, because Centurions are upgraded to Club floor.Never booked a suite in Berlin, only in Hamburg. If you want to see the prices for Amex, the code is RPPCR81711

I loved the SAS Radisson with the huge indoor cylindrical aquarium. Good location in the Mitte next to a lot of the landmarks, though it is quite a way to the west and the Potsdamer Platz, but the train is very easy to navigate. I find the East to be more interesting than the West of Berlin personally. But the whole city is delightful.
