New Orleans Hotel?

I'm looking for a luxury property in New Orleans in May. Looks like my best options are the Windsor Court or Ritz-Carlton, Anyone have any other favorites? I'm looking for convenience (ability to walk to Bourbon St., Casinos, etc) and full service luxury (it's for a special occasion). What property and type of room would you recommend?

Definitely choose Windsor Court over the Ritz Carlton which, in NOLA, isn't up to usual Ritz standards. You might also check out Soniat House in the Quarter -- unbeatable romance: http://www.soniathouse.com

There must be some reason why Mobil only gave it three stars:

Yes. Three stars is a paltry achievement. Windsor Court gets the 4-star rating.

I agree about the Windsor. But as I have posted before, the Ritz is usually $150 a night. For $150, it is great deal. At $300+ definately go for the Windsor.

I thought the Ritz was dreadful (I've posted in the past about it) and very much like the Windsor Court, including the restaurant.

By all means, try the Windsor Court. You won't be sorry. It's my favorite U.S. hotel -- New Orleans is just a bonus. There's nothing you could want that's not provided. Very subtle yet high level service. Even the room service food is amazing.

By the way, look for special packages on their website: www.orient-express.com
and I saw some deals on www.luxurylink.com
See if you can get a junior or 1 BR suite. If it's a special occasion call ahead and tell them. The hotel staff is very very accommodating and will really work with you to make your visit incredibly special.

We just got back from a weekend in NOLA and we stayed at the Maison Orleans. It is a boutique hotel in the Ritz Carlton and its managed by the Ritz (you make you reservations through the Ritz Carlton). Great location in the French Quarter (corner of Iberville and Dauphine). It's a charming hotel and the rooms have hardwood floors, deep tubs and beautiful antique furniture. You also get a personal butler! Truly one of the more romantic hotels we've been in.

They also offer complimentary continetal breakfast and evening hors d'oeuvres in these beautiful candle lit rooms off of the lobby. You also get full privileges at the Ritz (restaurants, bars, spa, etc.) but we were so happy with the Maison Orleans, we didn't even bother.

The independent (and, I believe, usually unbiased) Star Service gives the Ritz the nod over the Windsor Court. Star Service suggests the Windsor Court has slipped a tad.

What negative comments do people have about the RC on Canal?

I've never stayed there; I was only there visiting a couple times some friends. I found the staff to be extermely helpful and friendly, and the rooms were well appointed.

I hated the set up to take sevral elevator banks to get anywhere. The reception floor has low ceilings and is claustrophobic.
