India: Oberoi Amarvilas/Amans/ Umaid Bhawan or Indonesia: Amankila/Amanjiwo

Hello everyone,

Looking for advice from the luxury hotel & travel crowd once again.

If you have to choose one of these, which one is your favorite? (I know, I know very different experiences)😆

India: Oberoi Amarvilas/Amanbagh/Aman-i-khas/ Umaid Bhawan Palace or Indonesia: Amankila/Amanjiwo + Singapore.

Thanks for any advice

do jiwo + kila when ian , ernst , shane are there (and there are no events) ?

your route / stopover would definitely be singapore, or possibly other cities ?

btw alila purnama books cabins, whereas aman yachts are charter only

and you might be interested in doing amanwana sometime , recent report >

The tents have very little privacy. I was lucky to stay in tent 20 (the 'Lady Di' tent) but others, wow...just don't expect privacy. GM was present but not exactly amiable. Overall a wonderful stay, *highly* recommended.

yes it is true, long ago only silolona under aman booked cabins

something i have followed on annual basis since both launched

alilahotels.com/purnama/sailing-schedule
still publishes 2019
if they stop (under hyatt) there is Wakatobi
(hyatt acquire alila may be reason to do it)

for 1 cabin, 2nd/3rd are additional $1K per cabin per nt

(aman charter can do alila destination)

vs booking cabin on alila purnama >
alila purnama (mentions unlimited dives)
$2778 > $3667 master suite
$2222 > $2833 standard suite

I've been to Amarvilas- Udaivilas- Amanbagh- and Taj Lake Palace. Am doing jiwo and kila later this month. Will let you know if Jiwo-Kila beats my India experience which would be pretty hard to top

Thanks!

I'm asking, simply out of ignorance- What difference do those specific GM's make in the overall experience? Better service? More perks given?

Thanks Kage! Yes, if I decide to go to Indonesia, Singapore will be my stopover.
I thought about Alila Purnama (Raja Ampat) but then I have to go Jakarta to take a flight to Sorong. I am going to think about it. Thank you for your suggestion.

We did Amanjiwo, Amankila, Amanwana, and Amanusa in 2009. Loved it, though we left Wana early due to poor diving conditions and an even poorer dive master. Great dive at the Liberty from Bali.

We did the Lodhi, Taj Umaid Bhawan, Oberoi Udaivilas, Taj Nadesar Palace Varanasi, Oberoi Amarvilas, and Amanbagh in 2017. Loved it.

There’s a lot more to see in India. Indonesia is perhaps a bit more relaxing and certainly less chaotic in traveling between segments as in the craziness of India. So that could be a discerning factor.

I get the sense that Amans aren’t quite as spectacular in their service offerings as much as they used to be in the old Zecha regime. So pick your poison. It seems like we now are more at the mercy of whether or not the GM is there and whether or not the GM gets the Aman concept.

That being said, Amanjiwo, Amankila, and Umaid Bhawan are among our favorite hotel stays of all time. Of course, Varanasi in India was our favorite destination of them all.

You really cant go wrong. Pick one now. Do the other later. Easy.
