FS Nevis Construction Zone

So we are planning to visit in the near future and I've come to find out that the main restaurant, the lobby, various pools, the rum bar, and apparently a lot of the rooms are under major construction and closed. The thought of a resort with hundreds of handymen, drywall dust everywhere, jackhammers and half the resort closed doesn't seem too idyllic. There are several reviews on TA which paint a horrible picture. The website certainly didn't mention this when I booked and I feel sort of scammed.

We are already combining with the PH St. Kitts and wanted somewhere different. Is there a suitable alternative to the Four Seasons?

Lesson learned: don't buy airfare until the last minute.... may just have to eat the cancellation charges and cancel altogether.

I know Nevis quite well. It's a lovely little island and I remember it before the FS was built and largely ruined the best beach on the island. The resort may have given employment etc etc but that US-style resort is totally wrong for this very English country-style island. The FS had to build unsightly groins out in the ocean and destroyed a fabulous palm forest to make a golf course. OK for Barbados or even St Kitts (where there is a big Marriott casino thing) but not tiny, idyllic Nevis. On Nevis it's all about plantation houses converted into small hotels - the Montpelier, for instance, or Nisbet. Probably not for people wanting snip-snap service, a vast spa and bathrooms that work. But bags of beauty and character and that goes for both 'hard' and 'soft' product.

If you do go to St Kitts rent a car and drive around. And visit Brimstone Castle which is spectacular.

We stayed at the Nisbett Plantation Beach club about 10 years ago and it was great. We really enjoyed the island then. Havent been back since unfortunately.

Many thanks. I'll take a look at the Nisbet house. Although the FS there looked like a huge, banal resort, I wanted to use the golf course and figured that the pools and amenities would be good for the family. Now that the amenities are gone, I guess the question is can I use their golf course.

CakefacenWrinkles Reviewed September 17 Stay Elsewhere Poor service, expensive overpriced for quality of experience. Offered services not delivered i.e in room breakfast - didnt even inform this service would not be delivered.Only positive about this hotel was the location and accessibility to other bars and restaurants.

I spoke with the four seasons and feel assured that the worst is over, so we should be okay. They handled the situation is empathy and class. Kudos!

with FS one should expect recovery eventually even if from corporate

perhaps some can give example of recovery, but FS definitely has by far the most posts here regarding recovery (due to FS regulars and high profile FS properties? dont know) and i recall many examples both posted and heard via PM that were for far less of a failure than this

if any of the tripadvisor reviews were removed by guest, that may have been after recovery, as that is becoming more and more common including examples on this forum

it is kind of ridiculous for "luxury" industry to have gotten to this point

bill gates acquisitions >
2016 - FS nevis - some press says renovation through "late 2019"
2013 - FS punta mita , FS houston , FS atlanta
(alwaleed - FS paris , FS marrakech)

Anyone been in 2019 yet? Considering a late 2019/ early 2020 visit. How is construction progressing?
