Any idea what the $620 books into (room size)? That’s surprisingly a decent rate even for seasons / opening The property will have 17 (yes, 17!) room types. They’re all on the website if you want to check it out (that’s where I’m getting my information from). https://www.mandarinoriental.com/lak...o/luxury-hotel |

It gets you a 25sq metre/269sq ft ‘Superior Room’ with a garden view. The property will have 17 (yes, 17!) room types. They’re all on the website if you want to check it out (that’s where I’m getting my information from). https://www.mandarinoriental.com/lak...o/luxury-hotel |

Man that's small. I'd opt for the next one up right away.
The property as a whole seems very oriented to favour longer stays. It seems like a place that families or couples would book for 7 nights in the summer. Lots to see and do in the area. A few of the room types have kitchenettes and living rooms: Premier Suite for US$1585/night 1br; Grand Vista Lago Suite for US$2207/night 1br; La Residenza for US$2377/night, 2br (I think). Website says “Outside private terrace and garden with scenic views on Lake Como perfect for long stays and families”; Presidential Suite for US$3113/night, 1br + king sofa bed available, large private pool; Villa Della Rocca for US$3962/night, 1br, 2 story private villa ~1100sq ft. Villa Del Lago for US$6792/night, 3br, 4 story private villa with outdoor jacuzzi, game room, private dock, and private lift. They are definitely catering to families with some of these rooms, and they are all catering to longer stays. |
I remember the Top Gear boys - Clarkson, Hammond, May - stayed here when they did a Como trip. Clarkson was in a Riva speedboat. The problem with this hotel, whoever owns it, is that the setting isn't the best. It has a great view across the lake to the Villa D'Este but no great view up or down the lake. That's a big no-no as far as I'm concerned. And the rooms do look pokey.
I'm very taken this with place http://www.filario.it which has a gobsmackingly beautiful location and stylish-looking everything without being a rip-off. In fact, it looks like a bargain. |
Enjoyed Filario a few years ago for a couple of nights, in the off-season (end of October). Thoroughly enjoyed it. |
I just received an email saying the hotel will re-open for business on April 15th. I might stop by this summer if the virus eases up like it did last summer.
I drove from Bellagio down to Como a couple years ago and it was a very pretty drive. We took the ferry across from Lenno as I recall to get to Bellagio. |
Depending on situation I think about a stay in autumn. Still between MO and Tremezzo

We very much enjoyed our stay at the MO last summer. Its a delightful property, with the pool, access to boats, lovely garden grounds and spa making it a place we hope to return to. |

Tried to drive there yesterday but the roads were closed due to the crazy floods and weather. Apparently houses fell off completely on the way. See articles here:
