Amanresorts Thread 2018

Sorry - I put this in the Aman Sveti Stefan thread initially. Here it is again:-
Aman are about to launch, globally, their new Aman Skincare, which is rumoured to have been manufactured by ILA.
All-black bottles and jars again, but it looks as though it is plastic this time instead of glass.

Can you elaborate a bit?
I'm asking because I'm planning on doing a 3rd trip to Kila next year and am debating Kilasari vs. Indrakila (did Ocean Suites the last 2 visits). I like the infinity pool in the Kilasari suite, and from past visits walking around I would assume the view was decent given how up it is. Whereas Indrakila definitely have the much more open, ocean view.
Any details are greatly appreciated!

Kilasari > Indrakila if you're looknig at 1-bedroom signature villa options though. Although Indrakila is higher priced...

The iPad in the car on the way to Amanoi mentions the cigars and says they are made/grown on a plot of land near Amanera. Strangely that page didn't actually feature in the bar menu at the resort...

having returned from I believe my 8th Aman, I am left with the view that the brand is overrated, overpriced and that it looks very tired. I believe that my most recent stay at the brand will be my last.
My guess is that the brand will increase commission rates for agents to drum up business.

Im not trying to defend I felt the same way after two stays earlier this year.
A recent stay at Taka (Donald W as GM is a great host there) has sort have given me some faith again but I’m still on the fence.

Can you provide any details? Would obviously be helpful when making a blanket statement like that.

Well, as I mentioned, I think that the brand is overrated, overpriced and looks tired at many of their properties.
Aman over the last several years have lost key managers and there are definitely teeming problems.
Thus, why not look elsewhere? Private houses have better hard products in my opinion. I think that this forum has focused WAY, WAY too much on hackneyed choices: big box brands, predictable hotels rather than pushing travel more via renting boats and houses, and the latter is where I have been moving onto.

That said, we REALLY disagree about private villas. Just not for us and our lifestyle as a couple with no kids. Talk about boring. I love having people around, a fun hotel bar, etc.

Well, I should note that we often travel with friends and go out to bars as I consider hotel bars to be too quiet, so oddly I’m aiming for what you’re aiming but at a slightly more rowdy level. Touché!

How’s the experience at SS been so far? How is the service? Food/beverage? Are villa/suite air con units working? Any wasp issues on premises? Any groups of outside non-guests using the pool/services?

It has been above expectation and running at a normal Aman level actually (though I did come in not expecting much given recent reviews). They’re near 100% occupancy but everything has been running smoothly and we’ve not experienced service issues so far. We just came back from dinner at Arva and it’s very good (amazing pasta); though the culinary director for the Arva concept is on site so not sure if it’s better than normal (I did not catch his name but apparently he is based in Phuket and worked at Amanpuri back in the early 90s?). No non-guests using the pools as far as I can tell but there were probably some external guests at dinner. Service did not suffer at all though, Igor (the restaurant manager / host) was extremely attentive and friendly.
