Location

Convenient location especially now that Bora Bora is relatively developed , liken it to Puri . On a headland too .

Perhaps a 20 minutes ride from the pier . Can be seen in a distance from where we dropped anchor !

Sadly , the first ever OTW bungalows in the world are no more .

Meeting a former employee !

We were pleasantly surprised to learn that our enthusiastic guide , Teva , was one of the employees during her last year of her opening & was around during her closing . He was a skipper & all were extremely sad and upset that this historic property closed .

Still is wondering like the rest of us when Hotel Bora Bora will ever open again . That the OTW bungalows had to be destroyed , for safety reasons ? ..

He was able to point out certain things , without which these photos above would not have been taken .

He agreed to have this photo taken outside Bloody Marys to be posted .

Overall

Will be glad if Hotel Bora Bora will reopen though its location is now easily accessible to prying eyes .

Am sure Aman can figure something out .

Lots of other remote spots here too , if another location can be added as on Bali . Island hopping will be lovely here .

Thanks FlyerEC for those Bora Bora shots. It does seem as if the whole site has been cleared and while there are issues about the road and the virtual impossibility of re-routing it, I doubt if the HBB will ever re-open. For one thing, people have moved across to the motus and have left the 'mainland' for the day trippers. There are also a couple of big landfill sites there, handling all the waste from the motu hotels. A terrible shame. I am planning on returning - just for a day - aboard the Aranui 5 next January. Bora Bora is hard to completely shake off.

Similar to what @Larkin mentioned above, my wife and I attended an Aman event here in NYC tonight at a private residence. Aman is the main sponsor of Asia Week NY and many were in town attending. Many of the GMs from across the world were at the event (including some we've met on-site during our previous stays). It was a terrific event and felt more like an extended family reunion. The GMs were all super friendly and eager to talk - reminds me of what I love about the Aman properties. Upcoming new property openings, as mentioned elsewhere on this site, will include:

Aman Cabo (on the east cape, similar to where the new Four Seasons is opening)
Aman Kyoto (anticipated for opening in 2019)
Aman Costa Rica
Aman New York

Very excited for some of these openings and great to see the GMs in person.

Me too. I have completely given up trying to post photos here. It used to be so simple to just embed a single photo from my Flickr account. Now FT wants to import my entire Flickr account . . . useless and baffling.
