There is no valid or legal reason for any UK hotel to use chlorine in an indoor pool (unless they just want the cheapest process!). The better hotels use ultra violet or, at a pinch, ozone treatment, which uses a small amount of chlorine.

In California, every pool has a health warning to pregnant women not to use chlorinated pools. Chlorine is seriously bad for the health and should never be used indoors.

I'm excited to announce that The Spa at Mandarin Oriental, Tokyo and Christian Louboutin have collaborated to offer Christian Louboutin manicures and pedis. The first Spa in Japan to be officially approved by Christian Louboutin and carry his signature nail products. ^

It won't be a cheap Ginza style mani or pedi but I'm sure the MO nail therapists were well trained by the French Louboutin team.

Surely, Aventine, this is just marketing rather than a desirable experience? The Christian Louboutin manicures and pedis use toxic nail products - the rest is just branding and expensive packaging.

What is the best spa in Bangkok? We arrive at 5:55am at the airport, so thinking we will go to a spa early and then leave bags and explore a little before we depart at 7:20pm.

I just had a massage using almond oil, which turned out to be an ESPA product. If I had known, I would not have agreed, as I only use chemical-free spa products.

But I thought, how could almond oil be nasty? I do not know what ESPA had done with the oil, but my skin smelled like it had been plastered with fat that had been used to fry french fries.

It really matters what oils are used for massage. When the oil is of poor quality, the massage suffers, whereas when it smells wonderful, using natural essential oils, it enhances the quality of the treatment. Needless to say, I did not enjoy the ESPA experience.

Normally, I travel with my own massage oil for such occasions, but this time I had forgotten to pack it. However, it was a real demonstration of why spas should choose their skincare products with great care.

We've never liked treatments using ESPA products. Their scented oils also leaves a funny smell after the treatment.

Their jasmine oil smelled amazing and was very nourishing. I recommend Yamagouchi-san if anyone is in Tokyo.

My current favourite massage oil is Arabian Oud by Sodashi. I also like their Serenity Oil.
