The Aman London event is taking place the beginning of February. I attended the 2015 event, where almost all the company directors (including Mr. Doronin) and a handful of GMs were present, so I assume similar this time around. 9 GMs are noted to be there, yet the same was mentioned last time and almost half could not attend in the end. So far it is GMs from Jena, Sveti Stefan, Tokyo, Venice, Zoe as well as John Reed, Jann Hess, Nicolas Pillet and Julien Surget. It would be good to meet any other FTers attending.

Will do.

It says Yasuo Mizobuchi on the invite. I was in Aman Tokyo last week, but the GM was offsite and I was too tired to ask anything beyond that.

Post Aman Costa Rica

Just received an e-mail teasing Aman's new destination. Here's a link to the full page (including video.)

https://www.aman.com/resorts/costa-rica

I guess Aman views the Guanacaste area as being underserved, even with FS there.... but I can't help but think the Pantanal region in Brazil would be a better choice.... at least, it would be MY choice

It seems the new direction for Aman is less about remote locations in which Aman creates a luxury destination (as was true originally) and more about taking advantage of already established destinations. Aman’s urban expansion is suggestive of this new approach, as is this Costa Rica location.

One wonders if Aman will press for completion of Amanoca, as Aman supposedly wants to open in South America. One wonders what if anything is happening with the Gabon project.

Interesting to see them pick a Japanese woman for Aman Tokyo. She seems to be very experienced in the industry.

Huma Abedin's Cousin Convicted Of Fraud With "Russian Donald Trump

I did not know that the infamous Omar Amanat was a relative of Huma Abedin. I have long recovered from my depression caused by the loss of Aman to Vlad. And I wish Amanat good luck in prison.

I had posted on FT about that family relationship, but the linked article is incorrect in some substantial part. The criminal conviction of Amanat (and his brother in a related matter) wasn’t related to Doronin/Aman; it was related to a publicly traded company in the digital space and to covering up for an insolvent hedge fund operation run by a long time business acquaintance of his. It was quite the tangled web, but Aman is Doronin’s show.

Vladislav Doronin — the so-called Russian Donald Trump in the article — understandably has no regrets that Amanat has been placed in a federal correctional center in Manhattan, even as it has nothing to do with Aman and Doronin.

I realize that the above post is connected with this specific thread but nonetheless, I think it is time to move on to the 2018 Aman thread for the remaining few weeks of 2018. It's at Amanresorts Thread 2018

To encourage that, I am closing this thread.
