Virtuoso.com booking engine
From what I've read, this new booking engine is not working the way it's supposed to. Try the following steps:
(1) Sign in to your Virtuoso.com account (if you already have one). There's a "SIGN IN" link at the upper right of the screen at the end of the dark grey banner.
(2) If you don't already have an account, set one up.
(3) Register with the personal email address you use to contact your Virtuoso travel advisor. This is meant to automatically "match" you with your own advisor.
(4) If you're not matched with an advisor, you'll be taken to a "Meet Your Advisor" page. Click on the "Let's get started!" box.
(5) Next page: what type of vacations do you enjoy. Just click through using "Next."
(6) Next page: what destinations would you like to explore. Just click through using "Next."
(7) Next Page: Tell us where you would prefer your Advisor to be located. You'd enter the Country/State/City of your advisor. For example, to reach me, you'd choose United States > California > Berkeley ... and then click through using "Next."
For your own advisor, you'd likewise use his or her Country/State/City
(8) Next page: scroll through the available advisors and click your travel advisor.
(9) Next page: Sign in to your account.

a) If you have an email/password combination, enter those and click "Sign In."
b) If you don't yet have an account, click "Create an Account" on the lower left.
That should do the trick. Please let us all know if anyone has had success. Virtuoso has always experienced issues when rolling out new technologies...

Virtuoso has always had a very shaky technology with regards to finding their properties. I appreciate their services, but if they want to stay customer friendly they can't rely on having customers always reaching out to one of their advisors.
Maybe I'm not big fish enough to register on their radar but when I can get a lot of data, availability and prices for a property with a few mouse clicks myself on countless sites I can no longer motivate the time spent having to go back and forth with an agent.

You would be a fool to book a Four Seasons, Mandarin etc etc without going through a 'preferred partner' agent.

I sent an email off to them to see if they can switch my advisor to my current one. Curious to see how long it takes to change. I feel bad asking my advisor to do quick one nighters that are pretty inexpensive.

Furthermore, I totally agree with his point. It is 'foolish' to not book via those with the best relationships. The travel industry is all about relationships - so why book outside of those who give you the best chance of a great stay?

I wouldn't interpret his post as 'name calling' or 'insulting'...

it's hotels not heart surgery. Who cares who books what where. you won't die if you're not using a virtuoso advisor. Isn't there enough fish in the ocean for everyone that these types of self promotion / marketing threads don't need to be here?

There is a world out there and it shouldn't matter of how people/fellow FTers book a certain hotel, it's all about the stay, the experience, the sharing of insights, that's what FT should be all about and it should be respected that way without getting into "tit for tat" mentalities of "who's getting what and how much and from whom" all the time when talking/sharing experiences with us here on FT.

I would advise anyone to stay away from such a place.

I can't think of a single property I've ever visited calling itself a luxury hotel that would neglect to put their best side to a customer if they had made a reservation by their own means. Can you mention one that would?

The property will treat you he same way but you get something extra by going through a certain channel.
I'm not sure why hotels can't book directly with those rate but it's their loss.

Certain rate like FSPP has free breakfast + 100 F&B credit and some kind of upgrade. It's always hit or miss with the upgrade.

Accessories like breakfast can just as easily be had with corporate rates and such and require no agent.
