When at the St Regis last time they did forget to pick me up from the airport, but more than made up for it with consistently over the top service during the whole stay, including an upgrade to the St Regis Suite which is far and away superior to any other St Regis Suite that I've stayed in around the world. Huge, luxurious and beautiful (within the confines of the style).

Same for me. Absolutely loved the hard product of the StR, we also had a StR suite with a connecting deluxe room. It was bigger than most luxury 2 to 3 BR appartments in NYC. The design of this hotel is simply gorgeous. I can't really comment on the service as our stay was very short.

I have been to the Shangri La (2015 IIRC) - suite Horizon club level (can't recall the exact type sorry). IMHO this is one of the nicer Shangri La properties but definitely a league beneath the StR. The hard product is old (screams late '80's) and the suites were rather small and darkish. The Horizon Club offers good value for money with good food and drinks selection but be aware that especially in the evening that Club transforms into an "all you can eat and drink" type of venue. I think that such is mainly due to the type of clientèle but on the other hand it's also something that management does not seem to care about. Overall not very classy.

I like The Majestic Hotel. My preference is the new wing but the service in the old wing is more personalised.

As an alternative, I think the good old Mandarin should be worth a try. It was recently renovated and I have heard that the new rooms look spectacular.

Though with that in mind, the last time I was at the MO was a few years ago before most of the hotel was renovated. The old rooms were quite uninspiring, but the service was consistently polished and was of high-standard. The rooms with views to the park are brilliant, but not to the ones facing Petronas, as it was too close by to be appreciated. Additionally, the location is considerable great, especially compared to the Shang.

MOKL stay / revisited after refurbishment (32 Photos)

Mandarin Oriental Kuala Lumpur

Check In

Were welcomed warmly at the driveway on arrival & cheerily brought up to our corner room .

Check in was swift .

Room

Rather liked the refresh . Our corner park view was on the top floor .

Bathroom did not see much changes . Liked the amenities exclusive to MOKL though

View from behind the TV . The view of forested hills & mountains is now obscured by the many new hotels and buildings .

View as one enters the room .

Club Lounge

Have always liked this spacious lounge with cosy areas and expansive views .

As you can see , quiet enough to conduct meetings here . Saw a few groups spread out during the times we were there . We had some meetings too .

Did not need to use the meetings rooms provided .

Did get to try all the decent meal offerings . While the breakfast spread is not as extensive / wide as downstairs  , it is more than sufficient .

Aqua , beauty services & recreation floor

The whole floor was somewhat rearranged with the lounging areas around the pool expanded .

The Mandarin Spa is on the left and managed by them unlike previously .

Did not get to try the “ teh tarik “ ice cream as Aqua only opens at noon

Was hoping to have a late morning cool down ice cream cone ..

Swimming pool

One still has the park view although the hills & mountains can barely be seen now replaced by these new condominiums , hotels , etcetera . Do not expect so much the tranquility as when MOKL opened & many years after . Some distant construction noise too .

The outdoor jacuzzi ( indoors now ) is sadly no more and is now an area with thick mats

Service

The service for the Club Floor was warm and polished . Good to see some old timers around .

When items were not found in the breakfast spread in the Lounge , the staff went downstairs to the main restaurant so that we had them . Much appreciated gesture .

The pianist in the late afternoon / evening played “ soothing sounds “ .

We received complimentary laundry / pressing for up to 5 pieces per day .

( This was handy considering the hot and humid climate ) . Our clothes were returned within 12 hours as requested , thankfully , had sent some items at midnight as we had forgotten earlier ;)

A few foreign staff may have slight problems understanding English or may seem to understand but not follow through . Minor things like my request for 3 buckets of ice at turn down .. either not done or had 2 one night .

Dining

As we had most meals other than breakfast ( changed our original plans due to current road situation ) out , we ‘ ate ‘ our double lunches / dinners in the lounge so we could taste the spread .

What we had was pretty authentic for the local cuisine , the others were decent enough .

We did not have any meals in the hotel restaurants this stay .

Odds and ends

The musty corridors are thankfully a thing of the past with this upgrade .

Not necessary to run ‘ the gauntlet ‘ from the bank of elevators to our corner rooms anymore !

The shiny silvery interiors of the elevators / lifts though these photos belie how bright it is when inside them . Do not like this change , seems rather ott .

B73ACA4B-2B4C-4354-BDD2-F7366A4E9A3D.jpe4894AAAC-0E20-4205-B5DB-0C7E91D15395.jpe

The hotel is running at about capacity , so it is good that the pool was not crowded . From the photos , you can see that even there are ample cabanas / lounges available late morning , even late afternoon . We can see the pool from our windows .

With Hari Raya & Malaysia Day coming up along with school holidays , there will likely be many staycations too .

Location

Usually ideal for us and as we prefer this location by the park , like an oasis in the surrounding madness .

It is convenient for our meetings as the locals know the ins & outs of getting here . Even for those with offices further out , like in Klang , they know the better times they can meet with the least traffic chaos ;)

Currently , there are numerous road closures due to construction , etcetera making traffic conditions even worse than before . Getting anywhere which should take 10 minutes , will require one to factor in another 45 minutes , an hour ? or longer .

Thankfully , our vehicle can keep us cool with 18 C - has decent AC :) , with  the sweltering heat outside .

Thanks for sharing, @FlyerEC.

But I gotta say that I find the MO refresh looking kind of...tired. And a bit dark and dull. Not refreshing to me in the slightest. Sorry.

Glad you seem happy with it, though!

It is rather bright actually , especially in the elevators with the silvery theme , sunglasses may be needed by some .

For the room , had the drapes drawn most of the time whether the sun is streaming in or overcast out , so it may seem darker in the room .

The rest of my TR seems to have disappeared yet again so will post again some time , perhaps in bits ..

FS seems to have similar colour theme . Wonder if it is the trend these days ..

Thanks for the TR FlyerEC! Great to see that you liked the refresh.

Looking from your pictures, the room does look a lot nicer and brighter, though it doesn't seem like they did much to the bathroom. A great change from the dark, stuffy-looking old rooms.

The bathrooms are pretty much the same , minor changes possibly lighting .
My earlier edit disappeared along with the other sections with photos like Club Lounge , Swimming pool , etcetera

That's rather unfortunate to hear, though I'm looking forward to read the full review!

I thought so, that's why I booked it last month. Disappointed. Very uninspiring renovation work - bones are pretty bad, so it doesn't really matter what's done to ithem Check in process was extremely smooth, very poor afternoon tea, adequate breakfast, polished service.

Four Seasons KL has some issues - the rooms are standard beautiful bland can-be-anywhere type with few kinks (bedside control hard to reach, dirty windows everywhere) to some serious service failure. Maybe in a few months they will get their act together, but for now, better skip it.

I like St Regis KL, but location does not work for me. I'll probably stay again here but hope service will be improved from my first stay.
