Suggestions:

Mohonk Mountain House, New Palz
Rhinecliff Hotel, Rhinebeck. Can only be booked up to 6 months in advance. River view. Local and authentic, not luxury. Train noise.
Old Stone Farm, Rhinebeck - horse farm - 1/2018 - closed
Glenmere Mansion, Chester - can only be booked up to 6 months in advance. Two night minimum is required on the weekends between the months of April-December. A three night minimum may be required for holidays.

Sightseeing:
Dia, art collection from 1960s to present, closed Tues and Wed
Storm King Art Center, one of the world’s leading sculpture parks, should be stunning in the fall

Hudson Valley ideas sought

I am planning a trip for October 2016 that will combine a NYC visit and the Hudson Valley. I have two weeknights to spend in Hudson Valley. What are some lovely properties we should consider? I prefer a small property with a great view and good food. Spa/swimming pool are unimportant.

I'd say Mohonk but that is a large property.

It appears to be sold out for October 2016.

I'd think you'd have to call for October 2016. Hotel's don't update IT systems always that far in advance.

A friend that lives in Rhinebeck always puts us up at The Rhinecliff Hotel. It isn't luxury, it is local and authentic to the area. Old Stone Farm also looks interesting, but I have never stayed

If that is in his price point, yes. Much different than Mohonk.

As for October, call. That is the popular time for leave peepers.

Tell me some more. The website looks intriguing.

I've put together a wiki that includes recommendations to date and invite any with more ideas to post here and add there.

I've looked at Rhinecliff in the past... it does look interesting but from what I understand the train noise can be significant....

No recommendations on where to stay but definitely visit Culinary Institute of America for their bakery goods and try one of the restaurants!

Food is big part of a great trip. I've added a restaurant section to the wiki above and invite more recommendations. Thank you for yours. I'll definitely want to include it.

They have 3 restaurants on campus and I got to sample all of them since I was doing a multi-day bootcamp there. My fav is the American Bounty restaurant! Also went to the bakery for breakfast everyday and I can happily eat there for the rest of my life!

Not hotel related but do not miss Dia:beacon
Or stormking. We love them both - stormking is exceptionally stunning in the fall.
