New Orleans: Where to stay?

My wife and I will be there Aug 1-3 and haven't picked a hotel yet. We would like a property where we can just park our car, leave it, and walk around.

Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks!

Ritz, without a doubt.

(FYI, RC is probably my least favorite chain brand, and even I'm the first to admit they do one hell of a good job with Nola, and it's the best option, for both luxury and location)

They also run amazing RC STARS promos, pretty much year round.

We were looking at the RC or Windsor Court.

Any feed back on about the Windsor?

The Ritz is in a much better location than the Windsor Court. Just off the Quarter, it's quiet but you can be in the action in three minutes if you so desire. Great bar with Jeremy Davenport on Thursday/Friday/Saturday nights.

However, the Ritz does not have a pool, the Windsor Court does. That alone might make it worthwhile to stay at the Windsor Court. It'll be hot and muggy when you're down there. Staying at the Ritz does allow you to use the pool at the Marriot, but that's a bit of a walk. The Roosevelt Hotel across the street from the Ritz does have a pool that you can purchase a pass for if you're not staying at the hotel.

If you do stay at the Ritz, the club floor is extremely nice and well run.

I add my vote to the Ritz. We were just at Windsor court and it is (more than) a bit tired. And Internet was almost non existent. The Ritz is in a better location for access to the French quarter.

F and B was great at Windsor Court. But food and beverage is great everywhere in NOLA.

You don't have a lot of choices, it's an overhyped place with overpriced everything. The Ritz is good, but I still think it's too close to FQ, too loud.

I've stayed at the Ritz 6+ times and never found noise to be an issue. The lobby has a bar that gets going on the weekends, but the rooms are silent, and pitch black if you draw the black out curtains. And you can always stay in the club accommodations if you want to avoid the lobby altogether.

Will be in NOLA late August for a girls' wknd myself... booked JW for 2 nights since I figured we'll be out and about most of the time and it should be "good enough". Should I be looking at the RC instead??

Also, what is the RC STARS promo?

Last week it was 3rd night free, a few weeks ago it was 20% off, this week it seems to be an additional 5,000 points on a 2+ night stay. Just depends.

I'd go with the RC over JW, even if I were in my room for only an hour or two each day ;)

New Orleans: Where to stay?

RC without a doubt for me. Windsor Court has some nice public areas but rooms are tired. I don't care for the location and it just didn't feel right to me.
At the RC the club is worth the extra price, it is a great place to relax. We really enjoy the lounge and the hotel location is much better in my opinion.

Consider staying at The Roosevelt, it's a great hotel.

The Ritz has a fantastic club level and great live music (Jeremy Davenport) in he lobby bar on the weekends. If you have an AMEX Plat card - the FHR upgrade is usually to a suite (but not Club). They now charge $300 more for club - but I have been able to negotiate it for $200.

The Roosevelt is across the street from the Ritz. If you are a Hilton gold or diamond, they tend to be very generous with suite upgrades. Don't be afraid to ask for one. The Roosevelt is part of Visa Signature Hotels - so book through them for extra amenities if you use a visa card.

The Windsor court is located near the casino and shopping. So if those are your preferences it might be a smart place to stay. The Windsor Court has recently remodeled many of its rooms. It also has a nice (smallish) spa that is only a couple of years old. The Windsor Court serves a great afternoon tea with some interesting teas from around the world.

It's HOT in New Orleans in August - but it's worth visiting for the dining alone! The city puts on a "coolinary" to encourage tourism. You can eat at 5 star restaurants every night. Brightsen's in uptown is my favorite. http://www.coolinaryneworleans.com/c...y-restaurants/

New Orleans is also a great city for corkage. Even the best restaurants will only charge you $25 for corkage - so if you have been saving a nice bottle bring it on your trip.

If you want to hear some classic New Orleans Jazz while you are in NOLA get a couple of tickets to a show at Snug Harbor.

I hope you have a wonderful stay in New Orleans!!

meh. very nice rooms, although the few I've seen have all needed a refresh - banged up walls and furniture. service in the public areas is poor - they have an ice cream parlor in the lobby that my son loves, so we go every time we're in town. It's always a pain to gt someone to leave their conversation and serve us. And the public areas, while gorgeous, leave a lot to be desired. It's like a big convention hotel.

Thanks for all the great advice everyone. Still up in the air of where to stay lol.

Wow awesome. Any tips on how to bring wine on a long road trip? Nervous about the changing of temps.

pricesquire Jul 22, 2015 4:58 pm

Speaking of temps, last time I was in Nola in August, I had to shower 4 times a day. It was so hot it made Florida feel like Iceland.
